Entrance Preview

VITEEE. I secured 8154 ranks in the VITEEE 2010. Mechanical engineering has a pretty good scope and also the Mechanical course at VIT is ABET-accredited. The admission process is simple and first, the student has to deposit some money to secure his seat during counseling and the final payment has to be done after a month.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum is coherent with the industry needs for all the departments.

Internships Opportunities

For Internships at TVS motors, Caterpillar came to campus and took around 10 students. Stipend offers were from 10-15 thousand a month. Many of the companies in and around Chennai graciously accept VIT Chennai students for Internships if applied for.

Placement Experience

The placement is great. Accenture-3.4 lakhs pa, Honda -5.5 lakhs pa, Maruti-4.5 lakhs pa, Chrysler- 5.2 lakhs pa, Capgemini, Wipro and Cognizant-3.3 lakhs pa.

College Events

4

The college has various cultural events like Gravitas and VITMUN. Participants are from all the nearby colleges. These events are on the University level and sports and games are also included.

Fee Structure And Facilities

VIT fee structure is expensive and should cost around 2.4 lakhs per annum. Academic fee-1.4 lakhs Hostel fee -approx 1 lakh which includes mess. Students have to facility to take rooms in the neighborhood which is a cheaper option.

Fees and Financial Aid

Loans are available exactly at the time of admissions. Indian bank offers loans through the branch located inside the campus.

Campus Life

4.5

There is a lot of scope for extracurricular activities. There are amphitheaters where performances are organized every Friday. People from all the states of India can be found here and there is social harmony. There is less groupism.Gender ratio is 60:40 (m/f). There is enough gender tolerance and boys and girls take part together in most of the activities.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities are brilliant. It includes free Wi-Fi and a 24 x7 water facility. Enough number of lavatories and washrooms that can easily handle all the students. The mess has veg, nonveg food for both north and south Indian students. Mess facilities are a

Alumni/Alumna

I was from the first batch of VIT so I didn't have any seniors. But VIT regularly offers alumni meet and keep notes of alumni and their activities.

Exam Structure

Internal exams are for 50 marks which have two subjects per day. Term-end exams are well scheduled and lab timings are such that student can select their own lab slots and it is not hectic at all.

Faculty

4

The faculty is quite learned and most of them are M.Tech and pursuing Ph.D. at VIT itself. Department heads are all Ph.D. scholars.
