Remarks

Mostly positive, you have everything you need on campus. Coming to campus, it's a HUGE clean and green campus with a food street, co-operative stores, dispensary (with doctors), ambulance, etc. Negative, I'd say is that you don't have air coolers and it becomes terribly hot in summers. Also, the class rooms don't have air conditioning. The Chemistry labs surely need more equipments.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is quite good but very hectic. It's highly demanding. There are 4 sets of exams: Minor I, Mid Term, Minor II and End-Term , in that order ever semester. Practical exams only happen for Mid and End-Terms. Minor I: 10 Marks Mid: 30 Marks Minor II: 10 marks End: 50 Marks The marking is relative and SGPA/CGPA is awarded out of 10 as per the credits alloted and grades scored.

Placement Experience

3

Placements and job opportunities are not great for MSc. Chemistry students, the maximum package was a mere 6.5 lakhs. Mostly coaching institutes come for hiring, hardly one or two chemical/pharmaceutical companies visit and their packages are even lower! Coming to internships, yes internships are provided the stipend is not much but it's sufficient (6k or so a month). Internships are open to visiting students not the institute's own students. Since the lab experiences are mostly good so the interns won't have a troublesome experience.

College Events

4

There are year round events happening by various clubs! (There are many clubs!) The main college events are: Technozion (Tech Fest) : It's a three day fest, happens in October. Recent developments in technology and showcase events by students. Famous personalities coming and delivering lectures. There is also a Star Night on the last day. SpringSpree (Cultural Fest): A three day event, happens in March; days filled with fun and frolic, an absolute delight. Music and dance everywhere! Various sub events are organised, like Talent Hunt, Singing Competitions, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Feasible. Since it's a government institute and also an Institute of National Importance, it's well aided by the government. An M.Sc here is costing me roughly 2 lakhs including hostel accommodation and mess charges.

Fees and Financial Aid

There's a Student Aid Fund which disburses quite significant amounts to the students belonging to the lower economic section. The applications are welcomed in the end of February and results are announced in late March/early May. A few students can be provided loans too, otherwise a decent amount is credited into your account which is at the discretion of the Students Aid Fund Panel.

Campus Life

4.5

The labs are good but can definitely be better. Instruments are less than required, so sometimes you'll have to do experiments in groups of 3/4. Sports are very much active, many activities happen round the year : cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton and tennis matches are what I keep observing off and on.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel accommodation is provided to everyone. The infrastructure is great! It has Asia's biggest boys hostel -the 1.8K hostel and it's younger sibling 1K. Old hostels for boys are also there, but post graduation students are accomodated in the 9 floor tall 1.8k hostel which has the sufficient number of toilets and bathing rooms, elevators, water coolers etc. There's a food court on the ground floor as well, which is open till 11pm. During exam it's open till 1AM. It's worth mentioning that rooms are very spacious with big walled cupboards, beds, study table and chair. The furniture is of above average quality! Rooms are available in twin sharing as well as single occupancy. There are three girls hostels. The occupancies are three/four and minimum two. From what I've heard, they're all clean and hygienic.

Alumni/Alumna

The Alumni of various departments are quite helpful. They visit the campus and often donate equipments and vehicles (ambulances, etc) which are used by the institute. The Batch reunions happen quite often.

Faculty

4

The Chemistry department overall has very good teachers, two of them in particular are exceptionally great - Prof. A. Ramachandraiah and Dr. Raghu Chitta; videos. It's a delight to be taught by them. Teaching is done not just with chalk on board but using presentations and by showing . The ratio of faculty members to students is more than adequate.
