Course Curriculum Overview

5

The B.Com hons course is in itself the most demanding course in University of Delhi and I chose this course because of my interest in the field of finances and the stellar placement opportunities that are offered for this course curriculum. The curriculum includes all those categories and areas of study that will help a student crack their way in the real world.

Placement Experience

5

The placement is quite good at Hansraj. Students become eligible in their sixth semester to sit for campus placements. Some well known companies include Deloitte, ZS associates, Bain and Co., McKinsey, BCG, Pwc, KPMG, HDFC, Kotak Bank, and many more well known names. Highest package of this year went up to 24 LPA and average package stands at 7 LPA. The median package stands at 8 LPA. Most number of offers were made by finance and consulting companies and their roles. 80% of the students who sat for their placement got placed. My plans after getting the degree is to sit for the placement and get a decent package in finance background and after 2 years of good experience I plan on getting an MBA from a top B school.

Fees and Financial Aid

So I being a B.Com hons student paid an annual fees of Rs. 28,435. The tution and admission fees came to a total of 185 whereas the chunk of this 28k goes in University Development Fee and University Facilities and Services Charge which amounts to a total of around 1450. Another large chunk goes towards the College Facilities and Services Charge which amounts around 16000 and College Student Welfare Fund which amounts to around 6000. Now this 28,435 is for Indian student pursuing eithing B.Com hons or Eco hons. For foreign students the fee is quite high, amounting to Rs. 50,215 for these two courses. The additional fee for foreign students is the FSR fee which amounts to 21,000. Now let me make this clear that the fees I paid is for all the categories except PWD. For PWD category the fee is drastically low. It amounts to 875 rupees for B.Com hons and eco hons which constitutes of mainly the college facilities and services charge. There are quite a few scholarships in Hansraj College. First is HRC merit cum need scholarship of Rs. 2000 Second is HRC Freeship which is a fee concession scholarship of either 50% or 100%. Third is Sumangla Devi Hem Raj Bhalla Scholarship which amounts to a scholarship of Rs. 8000 Fourth is Help The Blind Foundation Scholarship which amounts to 10,000 rupees. Fifth is PMSSS J&K Scholarship Sixth is SHRI B. C. MAHESHWARI / SMT. SUGAN DEVI MAHESHWARI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP which amounts to either 5,000 or 10,000 rupees. Apart from this the college has its own scholarship for fees concession. There is one more very famous scholarship called the Dell Aspire Scholarship which provides fee concession, free laptop and career growth opportunities.

Campus Life

5

My experience overall in this college has been really good considering the campus life. There are 60+ clubs and societies here and I myself am part of 9-10 societies. The society culture is also quite vibrant and will benefit a student a lot. Some very famous fests held here are the Khelo Hansraj, Ascend , HR Conclave and many more. These are mainly held in the month of February and March. Our Library is quite big and spacious holding large amounts of books of all domains and fields. Our whole campus is wifi enabled. Hansraj has one of the most top notch sports facilities including an indoor badminton court and indoor shooting range.

Admission

I chose this college because of its stellar crowd and opportunities that are available here. Something which went wrong in my ceut preparation due to which I could not get a better college that is SRCC is basically silly mistakes in my exams and nothing else. I missed the cutoff for SRCC by 1 question and thats all. The admission process was quite easy as there is a common portal called the CSAS portal through which the admission process took place and everything was online and quite easy. I applied to St. Xavier's Kolkata and was selected in their Bsc Eco hons program. However when I got Hansraj , I withdrew my admission simply because of the vast networking experience I will get at Hansraj which is a little less in St Xavier's. The eligibility for Hansraj is CUET exam where one has to appear for english plus accountancy/mathematics and 2 other subjects that they have studied in their Class 12. The cutoff was 776 for B.com hons general category.

Faculty

5

The faculty to student ratio is roughly 1:25. The faculty student relationship is quite good and vibrant with the faculty teachers guiding the students in every part of their college journey. The faculty is quite approachable given students can always reach out to them through whatsapp or call or even offline after class. Some of the faculty I liked is my MPA teacher and BL teacher who are quite innovative in their teaching ways and are approachable. The best faculties are for the B.Com hons course given that it is the most demanding course in the whole University. There are only end semester exams for each semester and apart from that there are internal exams and vivas for the additional and DSE subjects. Almost all the students clear the exams given the faculty gives their best in teaching the students. The course curriculum is quite relevant to the current corporate scenario and market trends. All the valid skills are taught to the students which can be used by them on the job and in the corporate world.

Night Life

5

All the amenities like gym, cafeteria, Library, and public area closes around 6.30 and there is not much of a nightlife at Hansraj. Hostel gates are open till 10pm and students can commute anytime in this time duration. Some famous hangout places inside college are the Mitti Cafe, Nescafe, Amul Station and the LP area. The sports ground also opens from 12.30pm and it is another hangout area.

The course provides a comprehensive image of finance and management, though after NEP, the curriculum seems a little irrelevent. The exams are conducted twice in a year, 2 sems per year, they conduct mid sem exams as well.
