Remarks

Overall the academics and infrastructure is overwhelming. The the problem lies in the internship scheme as the college doesn't provide with one. Otherwise the college is accredited under A++ category under NAAC.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is not very problematic. But there lies a problem with the syllabus structure of the University of Calcutta. The syllabus is old but if you want to gain knowledge in the field of your study you should have the new trending syllabus. This is the problem with the course curriculum.

Internships Opportunities

No. As per my subject there were no internships given to us. But if you can try and get an internship opportunity outside your college the college authority helps you with the authorisation and let you do the internship.

Placement Experience

2.5

There is a no placement opportunities set by the college. But you can get lots of job placements once you are passed you from the college. And mostly these placement takes place on the basis of your under graduation marks and interview in the respective firm or company.

College Events

4.5

1. There is a food fest. 2. A grand fresher's party organised by the college union. 3. A convocation ceremony. 4. Fresher's and farewell organised by the respective departments. 5. There is also an art festival for singers and artists who want to show their talents.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very much feasible. It's is around 4000-5000? per year. And rest there is the exam fees. So overall as it under the University of Calcutta it very much feasible. They also provide with revised fee for BOP students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship as such is not given by the college but as I have mentioned above there is fee waiver for the economically challenged students with the merit so that they can continue with their studies without any problem.

Campus Life

3.5

The art festival allows students with the their talents to show case them. The labs are well maintained as I have heard and seen them. The college has a sports tent in Maidan, Kolkata where they train the athletes. There is also a cricket and football team that takes part in many honourable tournaments. Other than that annually the college union organises cricket football and badminton tournaments for the rest of the students of all departments.

Hostel Facilities

4

Honestly speaking I haven't stayed in the hostel as this my home city. But I have heard from my friends those have stayed in the hostel that there are around 3 hostels for the students where they can stay during the time of their course.

Alumni/Alumna

They are actually very helpful. The seniors and the union people they are always ready to help with anything you need. The seniors are really helpful with the notes and books that are important for the course structure.

Exam Structure

The year in which I was admitted in the college they used to follow once a year exam(University exam). Before the University exam the college used to take one mid term exam and pre test exam. On the basis of the pre test exam they used to decide whether you are qualified for the university exam or not. But now as per the University of Calcutta guidelines they have shifted to semester system there are 6 semesters for 3 year undergraduate course and one internal exam before each semester.

Admission

First I had to wait till my 12th results were out. Then I had to fill up an admission form on the website of the college. I had to put in the marks of my 12th exam and according to the marks basis they used to publish the name of the students. And accordingly you have to go to the college on the given date and get your admission done.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty no doubt is amazing. They are a proper guide to us. They help us with various notes from different books. Most importantly their punctuality and responsibility amazes me. Truly I am blessed to have such an amazing faculty guiding me.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
