The University of East London started as West Ham Technical Institute in 1892 and grew steadily over the decades to be a University to reckon with. The university is famous for courses like Law, Business, Education and Communities, and Psychology. Tuition fee payable by international students ranges from 12,700 GBP to 18,000 GBP (for MBA). Plethora of scholarships for international students, both internal and external are also available. UEL Campus

  • The University of East London is operated on two campuses located in Stratford and Docklands in East London.
  • The Docklands campus is the largest campus of the school and home to the 21 million GBP sports facility – SportsDock. SportsDock is one of largest indoor sports venue in London and was the official training headquarters of the United States Olympic Team in 2012 in preparation for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
  • International Student Barometer ranked the University of East London Sports facilities first in the world for sports facilities.
  • Other notable facilities on campus include fully compliant professional qualifications laboratory, civil engineering laboratory, network teaching laboratory, specialist surveying laboratories, creative space, microprocessors laboratory, power laboratory, etc
  • The Stratford Campus is home to the School of Health Sport and Bioscience, Cass School of Education and Communities, and the School of Psychology.
  • Free regular bus services are linking the Docklands and Stratford campuses of the school to ease transportation

Student Residence at UEL

  • The University of East London is prided as the only university in London offering on-campus accommodation to students (both home and International)
  • Accommodation allocation will be prioritized for international students who fit into the below criteria
    • Undergraduate students above 18 years
    • Full-time students with an unconditional Firm offer of admission
  • Students who fit into the above criteria are guaranteed accommodation for 2020/2021 academic session if they submitted their application for accommodation before 27th July 2020
  • There two main types of accommodation – The premium and the standard accommodation.
  • The standard accommodation is an affordable en suite accommodation with price pegged between 5,702 to 7,402 GBP per academic year. The premium accommodation rooms are similar to the rooms in standard accommodation; however, the only difference is the recently refurbished rooms and kitchen. The prices range from 6,738 GBP to 7,018 GBP per annum including utility bills and content insurance
  • Students have several payment plans and durations which includes fees per night, fees per full academic year (with or without summer), fees per term, fees for PGCE, and fees for only the summer stay
  • On-campus accommodation is offered in two accommodation halls - the West Student Halls and the East Student Halls with room types ranging from En-suite rooms, studios, standard rooms, 4 Bed Flat, Detached Flat, and Premium Kitchen. Amenities available include kitchen, dining space, social areas, laundry, 24/7 security, etc
  • All rooms and halls in the university on-campus accommodation are adapted to be wheelchair accessible to make on-campus accommodation easier for students with disabilities
  • All students offered accommodation on campus are required to pay an accommodation deposit of 750 GBP
  • The school also provide off-campus accommodation assistance for students who wish or who are not eligible for on-campus accommodation

Programs at UEL

  • The University of East London offers 173 undergraduate courses and 133 postgraduate courses in disciplines like Engineering, Healthcare, Architecture, Law, Fashion, etc. Courses start dates in January, March, and September.
  • The school offers full-time, part-time, distance learning, Sandwich, online, on-campus, dual delivery and blended mode of study
  • Students with insufficient English language entry requirements are required to enroll in the pre-sessional English program. The duration of study is dependent on the level of the applicant’s English language proficiency and the requirements for your degree program
  • The university also runs a Teacher training program offering specialized courses in education to teachers in primary, secondary and higher institutions
  • Master’s programs with integrated industrial placements are available. These programs span for two years instead of the conventional one year master’s program
  • Through the Learn and Earn program, students can work while undergoing a Pre-Entry Courses and Foundation, Part-Time Degrees, and Degree Apprenticeships
  • The school also offers a space for mature students to improve their skills and upgrade their certificates.

English Language Proficiency Tests

  • International students whose first language is not English are required to present an English test result as one of the prerequisites for admission.
  • For the Undergraduate application, the university requires an IELTS overall score of 5.5. or 6.0 depending on the course. Individual component scores for each course are outlined on the course web page
  • For postgraduate applications, the university requires an IELTS overall score of 6.0 or 6.5 depending on the course. Individual component scores for each course are outlined on the course web page
  • Other tests accepted by the university are IELTS for UKVI, TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE Academic, Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English, Cambridge IGCSE, Duolingo English Test. Applicants are advised to contact the international office for more information on the accepted tests.
  • Tests not accepted by the school are IELTS General, TOEIC, and IGCSE / GCE O Levels in English Literature
  • English studied in the home country may be accepted as a qualification if the applicant is from one of the following countries: India, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and China

International students offered admission are required to pay tuition fee deposit. The deposits are:

  • Undergraduate – 4,000 GBP
  • Postgraduate – 3,000 GBP

Financial Aid for International Students

  • The University of East London provides 2 million GBP in bursaries and scholarships for international students
  • The University of East London International scholarships range from 1,000 GBP to 5,000 GBP discount of the first-year tuition fee. Only offer holders for undergraduate and postgraduate programs are eligible for this scholarship. Exceptions to these are students of one of the following programs:
    • Pre-sessional English programs
    • International foundation programs
    • Franchised programs
    • Short courses or exchange/study abroad programs
    • Pre-Masters programs
    • Two year Masters programs
  • External scholarships acceptable by the University of East London are:
  • Chevening Scholarship: Chevening Scholarship is funded by the UK Government and its partners to award international postgraduate students of developing countries to develop global leaders. The amount covers full Scholarship which includes flights, accommodation, course fees, and a monthly allowance
  • The Commonwealth Scholarships Commission is open for postgraduate students from the commonwealth nations. The award covers the entire cost of study

Placements at UEL

  • The University of East London offers full-year placement at the end of the second year of study. This internship placement affords students the privilege to gain on-the-job skills and grow their professional network
