University of Exeter fees for Indian students start at £24,900 (₹28.14 Lakhs) per year for undergraduate Business or Economics degrees. Popular Masters programmes like MSc Finance and MSc Business Analytics cost £30,700-31,200 (₹34.69-35.26 Lakhs) per year for the September 2026 intake.
The September 2026 intake for postgraduate taught programmes closes 31 August 2026. Most Indian applicants without existing offers should target the September 2027 intake, since UK Student Visa processing takes 3 to 8 weeks and leaves no realistic runway for a fresh September 2026 start. UCAS undergraduate applications for 2027 entry open 2 September 2026 with an equal-consideration deadline of 14 January 2027.
The India Merit Scholarship of £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs) is auto-assessed for eligible Indian PG Taught applicants for the September 2026 intake, with no separate form required. External Indian scholarships like the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, JN Tata Endowment, and KC Mahindra Scholarship for September 2027 entry open from November 2026 onwards.
Postgraduate applicants pay a £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) tuition deposit within 28 days of accepting an offer, which counts fully toward first-year fees and triggers issue of the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies, the document needed for the Student Visa). The balance splits into two instalments: 50% at registration in September and 50% by January. Undergraduate students pay a £29.50 (₹3,334) UCAS (the UK’s centralised undergraduate application system, UG only) fee and then follow the same instalment pattern once enrolled. Bank-to-bank wires from Indian accounts clear in 3 to 5 working days; leave 10 days of buffer on each instalment.
A one-year Exeter MSc for an Indian student totals ₹53-70 Lakhs including tuition, 12 months of Exeter living costs, visa fee, and health surcharge. A three-year Business or Economics undergraduate degree runs approximately ₹1.32-1.40 Crore all-in before scholarships.

September 2026 Intake: Rolling Deadline 31 August, September 2027 Planning Opens
Intake: PG Taught rolling deadline is 31 August 2026, and the One Planet MBA closes 11 September 2026. Both dates sit inside standard UK Student Visa processing time, so realistic entry for a fresh Indian application is now the September 2027 intake. UCAS 2027 undergraduate applications open 2 September 2026 with an equal-consideration deadline of 14 January 2027.
Fee update: The September 2026 intake is billed at 2026/27 rates: £24,900 (₹28.14 Lakhs) for a Business UG seat and £30,700 (₹34.69 Lakhs) for MSc Finance. The September 2027 intake moves to 2027/28 rates, historically 4-6% higher, adding roughly ₹1.40-1.75 Lakhs per year for the same degree.
When to pay: A £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) tuition deposit is due within 28 days of offer acceptance. The remaining balance splits 50% at September registration and 50% by January. Wire transfers from Indian banks clear in 3-5 working days; leave 10 days buffer on both instalments.
Scholarships: The India Merit Scholarship (£7,500, ₹8.48 Lakhs) is auto-assessed for September 2026 PG Taught applicants, no form needed. The Exeter Excellence Scholarship of up to £10,000 (₹11.30 Lakhs) sits on top and requires a separate application. External Indian awards (Inlaks, JN Tata, KC Mahindra, Narotam Sekhsaria, Aga Khan) open the September 2027 cycle from November 2026 onwards; all September 2026 external windows have already closed.

Key Insight: Your September 2026 offer is billed at the 2026/27 rate of £24,900 (₹28.14 Lakhs) for a Business UG seat or £30,700 (₹34.69 Lakhs) for MSc Finance. The September 2027 intake will move to the 2027/28 rate, historically 5% higher, adding roughly ₹1.40 Lakhs per year on UG and ₹1.75 Lakhs on PG for the same programme. Exeter is a compact university city in Devon, south-west England, with a student population that shapes rental supply and food pricing. Living costs run significantly lower than London: budget £1,165-1,585 (₹1.32-1.79 Lakhs) per month all-in, versus £1,800-2,300 (₹2.03-2.60 Lakhs) for a London campus.

Monthly all-in: £1,165-1,585 (₹1.32-1.79 Lakhs). Annual (12 months, PG basis): £13,980-19,020 (₹15.80-21.49 Lakhs). Annual (10 months, UG term-time basis): £11,650-15,850 (₹13.16-17.91 Lakhs).
Note: The UKVI-recognised monthly living cost benchmark for the Student Visa (outside London) is £1,136 (₹1.28 Lakhs) per month, or £11,360 (₹12.84 Lakhs) for 9 months of proof-of-funds. This is the minimum you must show at visa application. Real spending in Exeter typically runs 15-20% above this benchmark; do not plan your actual budget on the minimum.
Rent is the single largest lever in your Exeter budget. On-campus halls at Birks Grange Village or Rowancroft are premium at £180-250/week (₹20,340-28,250) for en-suite rooms but include utilities, contents insurance, wifi, cleaning of common areas, and a 24/7 residence life team. Off-campus shared houses in St James, Pennsylvania, or Mount Pleasant cost £450-650/month (₹50,850-73,450) for a bedroom in a 3-4 person house, but add £80-120/month (₹9,040-13,560) in utilities. Second-year and postgraduate students overwhelmingly move off-campus after their first year to cut the accommodation bill.
Currency Tip: Your £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) tuition deposit falls due within 28 days of accepting your September 2026 offer, and the first tuition instalment is due at September registration. Use a Wise or Niyo forex card for both transfers instead of a traditional bank wire; the saving is 2-3% on the exchange spread. For a £25,000 (₹28.25 Lakhs) year-one payment, that is roughly ₹70,000 saved on forex costs alone.
Total first-year cost for an Indian student at Exeter, including tuition, living, visa fee, and health surcharge, works out to ₹46-53 Lakhs for a Business or Engineering undergraduate and ₹53-70 Lakhs for a taught Masters degree. The One Planet MBA sits at the top of the range at ₹69.57 Lakhs for the full 12-month programme.

Mandatory Fees combine the UK Student Visa (£490 one-time) plus IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge, paid upfront with the Student Visa application) of £776 per year of course. UG (3-year) upfront IHS is £2,328 (₹2.63 Lakhs); PG (1-year) upfront IHS is £776 (₹87,688). Living cost uses the mid-range of £1,300/month × 10 for UG term-time or × 12 for PG.

A full undergraduate programme (3 years, Business or Economics) totals approximately £117,000 (₹1.32 Crore) including a projected 5% fee inflation in Year 2 and Year 3. Financed by a full education loan at 10.5% over 10 years, this maps to an EMI of roughly ₹1.78 Lakhs per month post-graduation. A one-year MSc financed at ₹50 Lakhs runs an EMI of approximately ₹67,500 per month on the same terms.
Key Insight: For a September 2026 PG Taught intake, the India Merit Scholarship of £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs) is auto-applied to eligible Indian students, with no separate form. This alone cuts your MSc Finance year-one total from ₹53.75 Lakhs to ₹45.27 Lakhs. Accepting your offer and paying the £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) deposit before 31 August 2026 locks both this scholarship and the 2026/27 fee rate; deferring to the September 2027 intake forfeits the India Merit award and moves you to 2027/28 rates, adding an estimated ₹10 Lakhs to the all-in cost.

Tip for Indian Students: If you are targeting the September 2026 intake, the India Merit Scholarship (£7,500, ₹8.48 Lakhs) is your only in-play award, and it applies automatically the moment your PG Taught offer is accepted before 31 August 2026. All external Indian awards for September 2026 have already closed. For a September 2027 start, treat the Inlaks December 2026 opening as your first hard deadline: prepare three academic recommender letters plus a full Statement of Purpose by end-November 2026 so nothing bottlenecks a strong Inlaks submission.

For a September 2026 start, the £776 (₹87,688) IHS payment is due upfront with your Student Visa application, not at Exeter registration; if your visa is submitted in August 2026, this hits your Indian account before you leave home. Beyond tuition and living, budget the following hidden costs.
Budget approximately ₹5-8 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs beyond tuition and living, front-loaded in the pre-departure phase.
Note: The single hidden cost most Indian families under-budget is the Immigration Health Surcharge. It is paid in full at the visa application stage, not spread across the course duration. A three-year Exeter undergraduate degree requires £2,328 (₹2.63 Lakhs) in IHS alone, on top of the £490 (₹55,370) visa fee. Plan this ₹3.18 Lakhs outflow into your first pre-departure payment, not into the year-one living budget.
For a September 2026 start, the highest-value saving lever is confirming your PG Taught offer before 31 August 2026 to automatically capture the £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs) India Merit Scholarship at 2026/27 rates. Deferring one year forfeits the award and adds fee inflation, a combined loss of roughly ₹10 Lakhs on the same programme.
Tip for Indian Students: For the September 2026 PG intake, your single highest-value saving lever is the India Merit Scholarship of £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs), which requires zero form and applies automatically once you accept your offer and pay the £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) deposit before 31 August 2026. Stacked with the Section 80E tax deduction on an Indian education loan, the effective all-in cost of an MSc Finance drops from ₹53.75 Lakhs to roughly ₹40 Lakhs post-tax and post-scholarship, before any further external award.
A one-year MSc at the University of Exeter for the September 2026 intake works out to a headline ₹53-58 Lakhs all-in for a taught Masters, reducing to approximately ₹45 Lakhs after the auto-applied India Merit Scholarship of ₹8.48 Lakhs. Financed via a full education loan at 10.5% over 10 years, this maps to an EMI of about ₹60,000 per month, comfortably serviced by Exeter graduate starting salaries of £34,000-42,000 (₹38-47 Lakhs) under the UK Graduate Route Visa. The single actionable move for a September 2026 start is confirming your offer and paying the £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) deposit before the 31 August 2026 PG rolling deadline to lock the 2026/27 fee rate and the India Merit Scholarship together. Students still in the research stage should pivot to the September 2027 cycle: UCAS undergraduate applications open 2 September 2026 and external Indian scholarships (Inlaks, JN Tata, KC Mahindra) open their next round from November 2026 onwards.
Ques. What is the total cost of studying at University of Exeter for Indian students?
Ans. Total cost for the September 2026 intake ranges from ₹46 Lakhs (Business undergraduate Year 1) to ₹53-70 Lakhs per year (postgraduate). A full 3-year undergraduate Business degree runs approximately ₹1.32 Crore all-in, and a 1-year MSc costs ₹53-58 Lakhs before scholarships. The India Merit Scholarship of ₹8.48 Lakhs cuts the MSc figure to roughly ₹45 Lakhs for eligible Indian PG applicants.
Ques. Is the University of Exeter expensive compared to other UK Russell Group universities?
Ans. Exeter sits mid-range within the Russell Group. Its 2026/27 international Business fee of £24,900 (₹28.14 Lakhs) is below Warwick (£30,000+, ₹33.90 Lakhs+) and above Cardiff (£22,700, ₹25.65 Lakhs), and roughly matches Sheffield and Nottingham. Living costs in Exeter are 25-30% cheaper than London, which materially reduces the total-cost gap versus higher-ranked London universities like UCL or Imperial.
Ques. When are University of Exeter fees due for Indian students in the September 2026 intake?
Ans. Postgraduate applicants pay a £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) tuition deposit within 28 days of accepting the offer. The remaining balance splits into two instalments: 50% at registration in September 2026 and 50% by January 2027. Undergraduate students pay a £29.50 (₹3,334) UCAS application fee up front, then follow the same 50/50 instalment pattern once enrolled.
Ques. What scholarships can an Indian student get at the University of Exeter?
Ans. For the September 2026 intake, the India Merit Scholarship of £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs) is auto-applied to eligible PG Taught Indian students, no separate form required. UG Clearing entrants receive £3,000 (₹3.39 Lakhs). The Exeter Excellence Scholarship of up to £10,000 (₹11.30 Lakhs) needs a separate merit application. External Indian awards including Inlaks, JN Tata, KC Mahindra, and Narotam Sekhsaria open the September 2027 cycle from November 2026 onwards.
Ques. Does the University of Exeter charge an application fee for Indian students?
Ans. Postgraduate taught, MPhil, and PhD applications carry no application fee. Undergraduate applications submit via UCAS at £29.50 (₹3,334) for the 2027 entry cycle, covering up to 5 UK university choices in a single fee. The £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) PG tuition deposit is not an application fee; it counts fully toward first-year tuition.
Ques. What is the cost of living in Exeter city for Indian students?
Ans. Budget £1,165-1,585 (₹1.32-1.79 Lakhs) per month all-in for accommodation, food, transport, utilities, phone, and personal expenses. This works out to £13,980-19,020 (₹15.80-21.49 Lakhs) per year on a 12-month postgraduate basis, or £11,650-15,850 (₹13.16-17.91 Lakhs) on a 10-month undergraduate term-time basis.
Ques. Is a full education loan enough to cover Exeter fees and living costs?
Ans. Yes. Indian public and private lenders fund up to ₹1.5 Crore against collateral (SBI, Bank of Baroda) and up to ₹80 Lakhs unsecured (HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo) for UK postgraduate study. A ₹50 Lakhs loan at 10.5% over 10 years works out to an EMI of approximately ₹67,500 per month, comfortably serviced by Exeter graduate starting salaries of £34,000-42,000 (₹38-47 Lakhs) under the Graduate Route Visa.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at the University of Exeter to offset fees?
Ans. Yes. The UK Student Visa allows 20 hours per week of paid work during term time and full-time hours during vacations. At the 2026 UK national minimum wage of £12.21/hour (₹1,380/hour), a full quota of term-time work earns approximately £5,864 (₹6.63 Lakhs) per year, sufficient to cover food, transport, and personal expenses without additional loan drawdown.
Ques. What is the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and how much does it cost?
Ans. The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS, the annual fee paid to access UK NHS healthcare) is £776 (₹87,688) per year of your Exeter course, paid in a single upfront lump at Student Visa application. A 1-year MSc pays £776; a 3-year undergraduate degree pays £2,328 (₹2.63 Lakhs) at once, alongside the £490 (₹55,370) visa fee.
Ques. How much has Exeter’s international tuition increased year-over-year?
Ans. Exeter has raised international tuition by 4-6% per year since 2022. A Business undergraduate seat rose from £19,500 (₹22.04 Lakhs) in 2022/23 to £24,900 (₹28.14 Lakhs) in 2026/27, a 27.7% cumulative rise over four years. The September 2027 intake will be billed at the 2027/28 rate, historically 5% higher, adding roughly ₹1.40 Lakhs per year on UG and ₹1.75 Lakhs on PG for the same programme.
Ques. Can I defer my September 2026 Exeter offer to September 2027?
Ans. Yes. Exeter permits a one-year deferral on most PG Taught programmes with a written request, but deferring forfeits the India Merit Scholarship of £7,500 (₹8.48 Lakhs) tied to the September 2026 cycle and moves your tuition to the 2027/28 rate, roughly £1,000-1,500 (₹1.13-1.70 Lakhs) higher per year. Net financial cost of deferring is approximately ₹10 Lakhs on the same MSc programme.
Ques. Is the £2,500 tuition deposit refundable if my Student Visa is refused?
Ans. The £2,500 (₹2.83 Lakhs) tuition deposit is refundable if your UK Student Visa is refused, subject to submission of the official refusal letter to Exeter’s admissions team within the stated window on your offer. It is non-refundable if you withdraw voluntarily or fail to enrol for reasons unrelated to visa refusal. On successful enrolment, the full deposit counts toward Year 1 tuition.
