Course Curriculum Overview:

I am doing BE in EIC (Electronics Instrumentation & Control), and the course curriculum is good as it is set according to the need of the time. I chose this course because this branch of engineering studies the measurement and control of process variables , and design and implementation of systems that incorporate them. Choosing EIC pays off well as the placement of TIET is good. The faculty: student ratio of lectures is 1:120 and for practicals 1:30. All the faculty of TIET are well qualified and studied at IITs or abroad. They mainly are doctors in their respective fields and teach in the most effective ways using projectors and different visual methods. They clear all the doubts of students and help them in every way possible. The exam papers are difficult in ESTs and easy for MSTs and always take place timely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I personally feel that TIET offers highly qualified teachers for almost all subjects and you when in class will feel the same as well, however, the problem comes when we sit in the lecture hall due to a large number of students in a class it sometimes feels that you are sitting in a coaching institute and thus lose interest in the subject despite the talent of the teacher.

Student Snaps:

Placement Experience:

One can sit for the college placements in any year provided they have the necessary skills for that but most of the students apply for them after their 6th semester though many apply in the 5th semester too as they get an internship as well as a job offer. Recently Microsoft offered a package of? 52,00,000 per annum in the college and many more like Maruti Suzuki, Amazon, MakeMyTrip, etc upto 200 companies offer seats for students here. With the highest package of Microsoft of? 52,00,000, the average package is? 10,00,000. My plan after getting my degree is the get into a good company and do the job I took

Student Snaps:

Placement Experience:

The placements at Thapar are good. The average packages go around 9.75 lakh CTC and it increases every year. Around 200 companies visit Thapar. If you are not able to get placed during your graduation year then Thapar gives you one more chance to get placed. From the 6th semester, they start your placement training. And by the end of the 7th semester, 75% of students are placed. If you don't want to go for placements then Thapar also provides an option for startups. They give a grant to startups and also you are guided by their special team for the same.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The reason I chose this course was because of the packages and job opportunities given by the college. The alumni are great, the infrastructures are great (needs a little makeover). The ratio of faculty: to students is 1:30 in labs and about 1:120 in group classes. The teachers are MTech/Ph.D. graduates and the lab instructors are Ph.D. students.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement offers starts coming from prefinal year as companies start making offers for internship that the students have to undergo in a semester in the final year. Statistics about the placement can be accessed through the institute website. Around 70-90% students get placed from every branch here at TIET with remaining students opting for higher studies and others for their own ventures. Specifically, TIET does not recieve core companies of Biotechnology as of now, like the student from the branch if placed, choose non tech profiles in IT, Banking or Data Analysis industry. Rather internship opportunities are provided to the students for some Tech profiles too. After degree, my plan is to work in R&D industry and gain some experience in my core field. Then after that would give a thought to higher studies. Masters opportunities in abroad, as well in some colleges of India like IITs are good enough.

Thapar University: 2 Answered Questions

What is your review of Thapar University(Patiala)?

Namrata Das
Dhruv Chowdhurystudied at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Thapar University has a brand name, however, the ground reality for this university is not very pleasant and it is swiftly losing the qualities that defined it in its glorious past. The rankings of students enrolled in the university are going down each year. The administration is taking serious measures against the same, however, because of these measures the other students are suffering. One example is the strict entry and exit timings.

Academically, your experience in this institution will differ according to your branch. The CSE branch has a cooperative faculty and lenient attendance criteria. This is not the case for other branches. In other branches, some faculty members may hold personal grudges against you while some may fail you for missing the required attendance mark (75%) by as small as 0.1%. The mess is below average and the classrooms are not very impressive.  The administration is very slow.

However, there are positive points about Thapar University as well. The alumni from Thapar are placed in some of the best companies in India and abroad. It has some of the best synthetic courts in any engineering college in India. There are many teachers at Thapar University who serve as a source of inspiration to their students. Sports facilities for all the major sports are great. Placements at Thapar University are great and the labs are well updated. Even though Thapar is facing a drug problem, its teachers and administration are very active in trying to solve this issue.

Thus, even though Thapar University has outlived its glorious days, it has some positive points too. It is completely your choice whether or not you wish to take admission into it.

Why are the placements in Thapar University so high despite the bad reviews of many students studying at Thapar?

Kriti GoyalStudied at Thapar University (2019)

Thapar University has better placements than most private colleges and NITs. But the problem is, placements here directly depend on the grades of the students, and only the serious ones who work hard to build their profile bag the best packages.

Now the reviews of students are mixed because not everyone invests the same efforts and bags high packages. The people giving bad reviews are the ones who did not build their resumes well.

The best thing about Thapar University is the level of freedom you get to experience here. However, the increasing intake is slowly deteriorating the student quality so you might want to consider this before joining.
