Boston University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Boston University reports strong employment outcomes across its Questrom MBA and graduate MS cohorts, with the BU Center for Career Development running the central platform used by all Indian graduate students.
- Questrom MBA placement (Class of 2024): 85% overall; 91.7% employed within 3 months of graduation
- MBA median starting salary: $124,277 (₹118.4 lakh); average base salary $99,955 (₹95.2 lakh)
- Questrom MBA class of 2025 employment: 80% employment rate as per the official Feld Center 2025 report
- Top recruiters: Amazon, Deloitte, EY, Apple and Google, per BU official employment reports
- Post-study work: STEM-designated MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics and engineering degrees carry the 36-month OPT extension for Indian graduates
Boston University suits Indian applicants targeting professional MS or MBA outcomes in the US East Coast, willing to invest ₹135.7 to 266.2 lakh across the programme for a starting salary near ₹118.4 lakh, and to work through the STEM OPT window before an H-1B filing. The study in USA guide tracks the exact visa and post-study work rules that shape this ROI window.
BU is not the right fit for candidates seeking heavy need-based aid or aiming to break under ₹80 lakh total cost, for whom Purdue, Arizona State and comparable public flagships stay closer to the budget while holding STEM OPT eligibility and comparable industry hiring.
Boston University FAQs
Ques. Which Boston University graduate programmes accept a Spring 2027 intake?
Ans. Boston University accepts Spring 2027 applications for LEAP, MS Mechanical Engineering, MS Electrical and Computer Engineering, MS Materials Science and Engineering, MS Robotics and Autonomous Systems, and MS Systems Engineering, all with a 1 November 2026 deadline. Questrom MBA, Public Health and most Arts and Sciences MS tracks do not run a Spring cycle, so Indian applicants for those routes plan Fall entry instead.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at BU?
Ans. F-1 visa holders at Boston University can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during term and 40 hours per week over breaks. Off-campus work needs Curricular Practical Training authorisation, usually available after two semesters and tied to a for-credit internship. The BU International Students and Scholars Office issues the CPT paperwork Indian graduate students use for summer internships.
Ques. Does Boston University require GRE for the MS Computer Science application?
Ans. Boston University waives the GRE for MS Computer Science applicants, with a strong Bachelor’s transcript in computer science, mathematics or engineering carrying the review. GRE remains recommended for MS Data Science, MS Applied Data Analytics and traditional engineering MS tracks; the Questrom MBA requires either GMAT or GRE. Indian applicants should verify the current cycle rule on each programme page before finalising a test plan.
Ques. What application fee does Boston University charge Indian applicants?
Ans. Boston University charges a $95 (₹9,048) graduate application fee across most schools and $80 (₹7,619) for undergraduate applicants using the Common Application. The fee is non-refundable and payable by international credit card at submission. BU offers a limited fee-waiver programme for graduate applicants who demonstrate financial hardship, requested through the school’s admission portal before submission.
Ques. Are IELTS or TOEFL waivers available for BU undergraduate applicants?
Ans. Boston University waives IELTS and TOEFL for Indian applicants who complete a full four-year Bachelor’s or three-year secondary curriculum where English is the sole language of instruction. Indian applicants from CBSE and ISC schools with English-medium instruction can request a waiver on the application, but competitive candidates still submit test scores to strengthen the file. State-board applicants should plan to sit either TOEFL or IELTS.
Ques. How does Boston University verify Indian transcripts during admissions?
Ans. Boston University accepts English-language Indian transcripts directly from CBSE, ISC and state boards without a third-party evaluation for undergraduate admission. Graduate applicants from Indian universities that issue transcripts in English can submit unofficial transcripts at application and official ones on admission. A WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation is required when an Indian degree needs credit-hour translation for professional MS tracks.
Ques. What documents does BU accept for F-1 visa financial proof?
Ans. Boston University requires Indian applicants to show liquid funds covering the first year’s cost of attendance, roughly $95,998 to $102,473, including student insurance for graduate students. Accepted documents include Indian bank statements dated within 6 months, sanctioned education-loan letters from HDFC Credila or ICICI, and sponsor affidavits with income tax returns. BU issues the I-20 form only after financial verification clears its International Students and Scholars Office.

Overview
In a nutshell, the admission process consists of IELTS / GRE --> Wes Course Evaluation --> Application --> Results. Here my IELTS, undergrad grades and strong application were the key things for my selection to Boston University. I started quite early to build my strong research-oriented profile for my master's in computer science. I come from a Mechanical Engineering background and did my research in computer vision, Predictive maintenance and implementing computer vision Algorithms in the Manufacturing sector. I presented my 1st research paper at the IIT BHU international conference in 2023 and submitted 2 more papers in international journals. We designed and built a Hexapod Robot with an innovation to resist the impact, Got selected for the Gujarat Council of Science and Technology and filed a patent for the design. I also hold one more patent with my professor during my undergrad for designing a welding machine for micro-welding. I highlighted all these in my resume during my application.
Campus Life
Boston University offers a vibrant campus life with students from diverse nationalities, providing a global experience. The campus experience and infrastructure are top-notch, featuring well-equipped libraries and modern sports facilities. BU has an immunization drive for all of its freshers providing the best healthcare to its students and faculty. I almost every time spot Indians on campus and even all across Commonwealth Avenue. The community is very welcoming, with a substantial number of Indian students making it easier to connect with fellow countrymen. BU boasts numerous clubs and societies that cater to a wide range of interests. The university also hosts major fests like 'Splash', which showcases student organizations, and 'Global Music', adding colors to life. Apart from that I have also joined Technical clubs like Cyber Security Club, Artificial Intelligence Club and more.

- I like the Part-time job at the campus system.
Dislikes
- I do not like self-registering to the class system. If a class is full and I want it, I will fail to get it.
Overview
I chose this university as this university is globally known and had a good academic curriculum. Professors are full-time professionals and part-time, helping us require an up to date practical knowledge.
Campus Life
My college has 17 colleges and buildings. Has a sports building. Accommodate student stay on campus. Free activities and perks around campus. Terrier cards.

- Very safe city and campus + very diverse crowd
Dislikes
- Very very expensive tuition + cost of living too unaffordable + not the best career resources
Overview
I applied to 8 schools, and got in 7 of them. I chose the top-ranked one out of the 7. Wanted to be on the East Coast because of my aspiration to work on Wall Street. Overall experience was average, I wish I had gone to a cheaper school.
Campus Life
The campus is lovely, infra is amazing. Too much to do on campus in terms of both indoor and outdoor activities. There is free merch and food all around all the time for students. Very very happening and engaging.

- The people are very accommodating and friendly, the academics are strong and the program is well-known and reputable.
Dislikes
- Low stipend, less freedom to take courses outside the university.
Overview
I chose this university as I was familiar with the city, the reputation of the program, the professors aligned with my interest, the people seemed nice, the stipend is livable (barely), and the proximity to other big economic departments (Harvard, MIT, NBER).
Campus Life
The facilities are very good, the gym is excellent. There are opportunities to take fitness or recreational classes for free. I took piano for two semesters at the music school. The economics department is pretty old and the building is too small now, which is the only downside. There is not enough office space for PhD students. The classes are usually held in other buildings so it is not that much of a problem.

- I really liked the city as it is safe and one of the biggest hubs in US. And the university was very well ranked especially for my program.
Overview
Overall I am having a great experience so far and one more thing I’d like to highlight is Boston University has a lot of opportunities for on-campus jobs so you can make some money to pay your rent and have some fun as well.
Campus Life
Campus life is overall great, there’s a lot of events and things happening around if you are interested to get involved. There’s great facilities as well and it’s all well maintained. And the gym too is probably one of the most highly regarded in the area.

- Course and curriculum is updated and the professors are very helpful. Most professors are part time and work in organizations during the day so some professors also refer you to their organizations. Also, we are close to MIT and Harvard and are allowed to attend their events which is a plus.
- I got 4 admits and out of those, BU’s curriculum was the best. Also, it was the highest reputed University out of my admits. My other admits were from UIC, SJSU, Santa Clara University and IIT Chicago.
Dislikes
- Campus is in the city. It has its pros as well like transportation is easy and there are a lot of off campus housing nearby. The only thing I dislike about the the university is that its very expensive. And as a city, Boston is expensive so off campus housing is also very expensive.
Overview
It was a really good and different experience. At first I thought it was very stressful but then you start liking the life here. It is definitely an experience that everyone should have once in their lifetime.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty fun. We have regular events for networking which helps a lot. There are not much events for sports as every grad student is busy with studies. Library is good too.
Overview
It has the best program for project management in the country.
Fees
Tuition varies but mine is $30,000 per semester.
Overview
High ranking for selected fields, scholarship, and ideal location (diverse and urban environment).
