Ques. What is it like to attend Syracuse University? In terms of both class life and extracurriculars/social life.

    ● Top Answer By Kumar Shiwam on 13 Jan 21

Ans. Syracuse was once a thriving city and Syracuse University was once considered a “party school”. Things have dialed down in the recent decades and though it may not be the “mad party” school, it still hosts many fraternity and sorority parties. This being a private university, charges a higher fee which translates to a uniformity, both in terms of behavior and looks, among the students attending the school. The “political correctness” being enforced today across universities, has also taken a toll on this university. The most happening places in Syracuse happen to be Walnut Avenue and Euclid Avenue. Walnut Avenue is known for its greek life while Euclid Avenue is known for house parties. Various sporting clubs, student organizations and sometimes students themselves organize house parties which may or may not be your taste. The loads of classes are dependent on the major you are doing. The iSchool expects lots of co-op projects in the labs which take a significant chunk of your time. The Whitman School of Business will involve a lot many individual tasks, group tasks, meetings etc. The Newhouse School of Communication students work almost single handedly in the Armory Square building. They do lots of TV, radio work and sometimes work for straight 24 hours to meet deadlines. In terms of sports, basketball is the most widely played and followed sport here. The Carrier Dome is the mecca for basketball lovers. The Chuck’s Café, Faegan’s Pub, Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar are some other places to hang out with friends. And finally talking about the weather, the winter is torturous. It receives the amount of snowfall which is higher than the national average. Along with the winter, it is the chilly winds which sometimes can take a toll on your health. So all in all, the university is full of character and you will enjoy every bit of your life here.Read more

Ques. Should I choose USC, UIUC, or Syracuse University for my undergraduate study of architecture?

    ● Top Answer By Tezal Dahiya on 13 Jan 21

Ans. The University of Southern California (USC) is a private university located in Los Angeles, California. The University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign (UIUC) is a public university located in the twin cities of Urbana and Champaign. The QS World University Rankings by subject 2020 – Architecture/Build Environment is given below – University of Southern California (USC) - #51 - 100 University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign (UIUC) - #50 Syracuse University - #101 – 150 The rankings tell you one thing and the experience of the students another. The reputation and the number of graduates from the USC School of Architecture and Syracuse University School of Architecture are far more than the graduates from the Illinois School of Architecture – UIUC. All these programs are quite close in terms of rankings as well. So academically you cannot go wrong with any of these three schools. Yet USC and Syracuse University still hold a little edge. Your choice should also depend upon the area you want to settle down after graduating. USC is located on the west coast, UIUC in the midwest and Syracuse University on the east coast. If you want to work in New York, choose Syracuse University. If you want to work in California or Los Angeles, choose USC. It is not that they are not known nationally, but most of the hiring managers, some of whom may be alumni, are located in companies closer to the university itself, thus a better chance of getting employed in that region. Also some may prefer the quiet regions of upstate New York or Illinois while some may marvel at the architectural designs in and around the city of Los Angeles. This is strictly a personal choice. Also factor in the huge and ever growing alumni network of USC, which makes it a compelling choice. If you combine all these factors, then University of Southern California (USC) emerges as a clear winner among the three for studying architecture.Read more

Ques. What are the pros and cons of going to Syracuse University?

    ● Top Answer By Janvi Bhambri on 13 Jan 21

Ans. Syracuse University is a private institute located in Syracuse, New York. It is a huge school with amazing educators and everyone is bound to find something here. It is ranked #58 by US News National Universities ranking in the USA, #301 – 350 by THE World University Ranking (2021) and #601 – 650 by QS World University Rankings (2021). However if you are looking for a small college with limited class size and activities going around then you should avoid going to Syracuse.  The university packs in lots of positives which may persuade you to join it as a full-time student – The university publishes The Daily Orange, one of the oldest and fully independent college newspapers. So you are tagged as “Orangeman” from day one which is widely respected especially in the print media world. The professors are very reputed in their respective domains. There are some courses in arts, architecture, international relations which you will enjoy apart from your core course. You will get a great mix of students (with a mix of international students) and some will be your friends for life. You will enjoy the hustle bustle of city life, if you are into it. Various financial aids are also available to the students. But then it also has some negative points which should be discussed in detail as well – The “Orangeman” tag. It will remain with you till your death. It can be annoying for some if you do not prefer the fast city life of Syracuse. The fee is high as it is a private university. So no matter how many scholarships you receive, it will still burn a huge hole in your pocket. The university asks for your religious preference for roommate selection. This can hurt you if you do not get along with your roommate. In the end, it is a very good school and worth considering. However, if you prefer small batch size and coziness, it may not suit your personality well.Read more

Ques. What are some useful tips for students starting their first semester at Syracuse University?

    ● Top Answer By Sonal Vaid on 13 Jan 21

Ans. Starting out in a new university is always a unique experience for any student. It is really fine to be a little anxious about the social, cultural as well as educational life you would be getting into and your plans to fit into the new university. But first thing first; do not overburden yourself in thinking what you want to major in. Instead, follow the elimination method and start ruling out the majors in which you do not want to study. Before the end of freshman year, you would definitely figure out your preferred area of study. And do not worry if you don’t get your preferred school. There are plenty of other things in the campus to keep you happy. You can also follow a sports team. You could look for less popular sports such as lacrosse, soccer, boxing, rowing which are as interesting as popular sports such as basketball and football. You should also consider joining some of the clubs of your passion such as photography, skiing, snowboarding, dance, philanthropy, jewelry making, culinary arts etc.  If you have passion for writing you should consider joining The Daily Orange. You even have clubs for greek life! Still if you do not find a club of your choice, you could even initiate to start one.  If you are an adventure junkie, the skiing and snowboarding clubs regularly visit the Greek Peak, Toggenburg and the Labrador Mountain. Outside of campus, you can visit the Green Lakes state park and the Wegman’s! Dinosaur BBQ.  There are also plenty of thrift shops for your shopping experiences and many old diners to keep your tummy happy. The weather is unpredictable and you should be prepared for it. It can get really chilly and windy, so bring in a pair of warm clothes, a coat with a hoodie is preferable. Finally, the dorm rooms are almost always located at inconvenient places for freshman students. So do not worry about it, enjoy your first year and experience the campus life.Read more

Ques. Which is better, Syracuse University or the University of Maryland?

    ● Top Answer By Mayank Badhwar on 13 Jan 21

Ans. Which one is a “better” university depends on what you are studying and what you want to achieve out of the education. Syracuse is a private institute in New York while the University of Maryland is a public higher education institute in Maryland. Ranking wise too both are ranked #58 among the top US universities by US News. So finally it comes down to your preference of study. You should visit both the campuses, talk to their respective admission offices and understand the opportunities available to the graduates. If however, you live in the states of Maryland or DC area, you should definitely consider the University of Maryland as being a state university, you can save lots on your education bills. University of Maryland has a very strong STEM program. Its engineering department which includes chemical engineering and fire protection engineering along with the traditional mathematics, physics and computer science departments are very well renowned. Their literature and criminal justice programs are also really very good. However, the professional courses offered by the university are just about average. This is where Syracuse University excels at. If you want to study public relations, advertising, film making, broadcast and digital journalism, you should choose the Newhouse School of Communications and the School of Information Studies of Syracuse University. Similarly the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is excellent for public affairs study while The Whitman School of Management and the law school are also quite reputed in their field of study within the university.Read more

The main reason for me choosing Syracuse University was the kind of research being done in the Earth and Environmental Science department. My research interest intersected with multiple faculties in the department. Another reason is the amount of scholarship (funding) provided and the cost of living in Syracuse.

    Course Curriculum :

Course curriculum is fairly easy. You can always take high level courses. Or, take courses in other departments to increase your depth in any particular field. Research is the forefront of my degree, so I chose courses that helped me in doing my research. Idustrial exposure is also available for students who are interested in it.

From a rich array of degree programs and extracurricular activities that ignite their passions to integrated health and wellness offerings that empower them to embrace the college experience with a sense of well-being?Syracuse University goes beyond the classroom to fuel discovery and positive impact. I was required to pay around $80 for the online application form.

    Course Curriculum :

Applied Statistics Program at Syracuse University is an interdisciplinary program within the College of Arts and Sciences that includes faculty from computer and information science, management, mathematics, psychology, and the social sciences, among others. The program offers an undergraduate concentration in applied statistics, sponsors a speaker series that hosts visiting statisticians and scientists, and offers a master’s degree in applied statistics.

In a world undergoing extraordinary transformation, leadership and innovation is more critical than ever. I work alongside leading scholars and have access to hands-on research and learning opportunities—all of which prepare them to shape their communities and become the change-makers of tomorrow. I had applied through a common application by paying an amound of around $80.

    Course Curriculum :

Long recognized as one of the elite schools of mass communication, Newhouse embraces virtually every known form of information dissemination. Programs are rooted in the liberal arts while you learn how to manage and produce for the mass media and other areas of public communications.

Since I didn't want to spend extra money on housing and live with my close family members instead, I preferred a university that would be easy to commute to, and of the few schools I got accepted into, Syracuse was my best option. I was also satisfied with their Computer Engineering program, hence I applied through their online portal with an application fee of $75.

    Course Curriculum :

The MSC program was quite expansive. Apart from the core courses, we also had a variety to choose from including Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and the like. It gave me the required knowledge not only in my field of study but also in related sectors and how I could diversify further.

The College was accredited grade A by NAAC which was a requirement. I got selected here after a very tough screening process. My application was completed online and I had to pay $75 as an application fee. My academic background was in Accounts. I had completed my Bachelor's in Commerce with Accounts honors where I secured the 1st Class. For this particular program, I needed to be an Accounts Bachelor and also secure a first-class to be deemed eligible.

    Course Curriculum :

My course has a total of 12 credits with the following subjects-Financial Management Analysis, International reporting and Analysis, Advanced Auditing and Taxes, and Business Strategy. My electives are Principles of Fraud examination and Venture Capital. Newer topics like Environmental Accounting, Forensic Accounting, and International Accounting are also taught.
