NEET MDS 2027 BDS Degree and Marks Requirement

The first condition for NEET MDS 2027 is a BDS degree from a dental college recognised by the Dental Council of India. The college must have held DCI recognition while you were studying there. Degrees from deemed universities, state universities, and government dental colleges are all accepted as long as the college holds DCI approval. You also need a minimum percentage in the BDS final examination. The required percentage differs by category.

Minimum BDS Marks for NEET MDS 2027 by Category

The marks requirement below is based on the DCI MDS Regulations and the NEET MDS 2026 information bulletin. NBEMS will confirm the exact figures in the NEET MDS 2027 bulletin once released.

Category Minimum BDS Marks Required
General 50% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) 50% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)
OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes, Non-Creamy Layer) 40% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)
SC (Scheduled Caste) 40% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 40% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)
PwD (Person with Disability) 40% aggregate in BDS (Tentative)

Note: These percentages are based on the pattern from NEET MDS 2026. NBEMS may revise them in the official NEET MDS 2027 notification. Always check the official information bulletin at natboard.edu.in before applying.

Which BDS Degrees Are Accepted for NEET MDS 2027?

  • BDS degree awarded by a university in India where the dental college holds DCI recognition.
  • BDS degree from a deemed university or autonomous college that is DCI-recognised.
  • BDS degree from a government dental college that is DCI-approved.
  • If your college has since lost DCI recognition after you graduated, your eligibility may be questioned. Contact NBEMS directly with proof of DCI recognition during your period of study.

Foreign BDS Degree Holders

A BDS degree from a dental college outside India does not qualify you for NEET MDS government AIQ seats. A foreign BDS degree is not recognised by the DCI for MDS admission through NEET MDS unless it has been screened and cleared by the DCI through its screening test process. Check the current DCI policy before applying.

Important: The BDS degree certificate must show that you passed from a DCI-recognised college. If your college changed its name or merged with another institution, carry a DCI recognition certificate for the period when you studied there.

NEET MDS 2027 Internship Completion Rules

After completing BDS, every dental graduate must finish a 12-month compulsory rotating residential internship (CRRI) before applying for MDS. For NEET MDS 2027, the internship must be completed by 31 March 2027 (Tentative). This deadline is based on the NEET MDS 2026 cycle. NBEMS will confirm the exact date in the official NEET MDS 2027 bulletin.

NBEMS verifies registration details at the counselling stage, not the application stage. Your nationality determines which category of MDS seats you can apply for.

State Dental Council Registration Requirement

  • You must hold a permanent or provisional registration with any State Dental Council in India.
  • A Provisional Registration Certificate (PRC) issued at the time of BDS admission or after passing BDS is accepted.
  • Permanent registration obtained after completing the internship is also accepted.
  • If your SDC registration has lapsed, renew it before applying. NBEMS may ask for proof of valid registration at the counselling stage.
  • The registration number and SDC name you enter in the NEET MDS 2027 application form must match the certificate exactly.

Nationality and Seat Category

Nationality Eligible for Government AIQ Seats? Eligible for NRI or Management Quota Seats?
Indian national Yes, through NEET MDS score and AIQ counselling Yes, if the college offers NRI or management quota seats and you meet their conditions
NRI (Non-Resident Indian) No. NRIs are not eligible for government AIQ seats under central counselling. Yes, under NRI quota. Conditions set by individual colleges and state counselling bodies.
OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) No, unless the OCI holder also holds Indian citizenship Subject to individual college and state policy. Check with the target institution.
Foreign national No Subject to individual college and DCI policy. Not covered under central AIQ counselling.

Important: Indian nationals who completed BDS from a foreign university are not eligible for government AIQ seats under NEET MDS. Even if you are an Indian citizen, a foreign BDS degree does not automatically qualify you unless the DCI has cleared it through its screening test process.

NEET MDS 2027 Attempt Limits and Age

NEET MDS has no upper age limit and no limit on the number of attempts. Any dentist who meets the BDS, internship, and registration conditions can appear every year. Upper age limit None. There is no maximum age to appear for NEET MDS.
Lower age limit None set by NBEMS. In practice, minimum age is around 22 to 23 years when BDS and internship are both done.

NEET MDS 2027 Eligibility Criteria - Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the minimum BDS percentage required for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. Based on the NEET MDS 2026 pattern, General and EWS candidates need at least 50% aggregate marks in BDS. SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD candidates need at least 40% aggregate marks in BDS. These figures are tentative. NBEMS will confirm the exact requirement in the official NEET MDS 2027 information bulletin at natboard.edu.in.

Ques. Is there an upper age limit for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. No. There is no upper age limit for NEET MDS 2027. Any dentist who has a BDS degree from a DCI-recognised college, a completed internship, and a valid SDC registration can appear regardless of age. NBEMS does not set any maximum age restriction for this exam.

Ques. How many times can I appear for NEET MDS?

Ans. There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET MDS. You can appear every year as long as you meet the eligibility conditions. The only bar is if you already hold an MDS degree, in which case you are not eligible to apply again.

Ques. Can I apply for NEET MDS 2027 if my internship is not finished yet?

Ans. Yes, you can apply if your internship is in progress and you will complete it by 31 March 2027 (Tentative). You will need to submit a certificate from your college principal or dean stating the expected completion date. If you do not complete the internship by the deadline, your result and any allotted seat will be cancelled.

Ques. Can a candidate who already has an MDS degree apply for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. No. A candidate who has already been awarded an MDS degree from any university in India is not eligible to appear for NEET MDS 2027. The exam is only for BDS graduates who have not yet completed MDS. If you are currently pursuing MDS and the degree has not yet been awarded, check the specific conditions in the NEET MDS 2027 bulletin before applying.

Ques. Does the BDS college need to be DCI recognised at the time of application or at the time I studied?

Ans. DCI recognition must have been in place during the period when you studied BDS. If your college held DCI recognition when you enrolled and studied, your degree is eligible even if the college’s status changed after you graduated. Carry a copy of the DCI recognition certificate for the relevant years if there is any doubt about your college’s status.

Ques. Is a Provisional Registration Certificate from the State Dental Council accepted for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. Yes. A Provisional Registration Certificate (PRC) from any State Dental Council is accepted. You do not need a permanent registration to apply. NBEMS checks for SDC registration at the counselling stage. Make sure the PRC details match exactly what you enter in the application form.

Ques. Are NRI candidates eligible for government AIQ MDS seats through NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. No. NRI candidates are not eligible for government All India Quota (AIQ) seats under central counselling. NRI candidates can apply for NRI quota or management quota seats offered by individual dental colleges. The conditions and fees for NRI quota seats are set by each college and the state counselling body.

Ques. What happens if my BDS marksheet shows an aggregate below 50% for the General category?

Ans. You would not be eligible for NEET MDS 2027 as a General category candidate if your BDS aggregate is below 50% (Tentative). There is no grace or rounding rule mentioned by NBEMS. The percentage is calculated from the marks in your BDS final marksheet. If you fall in a reserved category (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, or PwD), the minimum is 40%.

Ques. Can I apply for NEET MDS 2027 if I completed BDS from a state university in a different state from where I want to do MDS?

Ans. Yes. The state where you completed BDS has no bearing on eligibility for NEET MDS 2027. You can apply for MDS seats in any state through AIQ counselling based on your NEET MDS score. For state quota seats, individual state counselling bodies may have domicile rules. Check the conditions set by the target state’s counselling authority.

Ques. Is there a separate eligibility condition for PwD candidates beyond the marks requirement?

Ans. PwD candidates need 40% in BDS (Tentative) instead of 50%. The PwD certificate must be issued by a medical board at a government hospital and must state the type and percentage of disability. NBEMS specifies which types of disabilities are covered under PwD reservation in the official information bulletin. Carry the original and attested copies of the PwD certificate to counselling.

Ques. If I appeared for NEET MDS earlier but did not get a seat, do I need to meet any fresh eligibility conditions for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. No fresh condition applies just because you appeared before. You need to meet the same standard conditions: BDS from a DCI-recognised college with the required marks, completed internship by 31 March 2027, and a valid SDC registration. Your previous NEET MDS scores do not carry forward. You compete on the NEET MDS 2027 score alone.

Ques. What is the minimum age to appear for NEET MDS 2027?

Ans. NBEMS does not set a minimum age for NEET MDS. In practice, the minimum possible age when both BDS and a 12-month internship are done is around 22 to 23 years. If you have completed BDS, finished your CRRI, and hold an SDC registration, you can apply at any age.
