The seat counts above are indicative and calculated by applying the stated reservation percentages to total program seats. Actual allocation per campus may vary marginally due to rounding. The same reservation percentages apply within both the All-India and State Domicile pools.

NIFT 2026 All-India vs State Domicile Seats

State Domicile seats (480 in total) are reserved for students who hold a valid domicile certificate for the state where their chosen NIFT campus is located. To claim a State Domicile seat you must be a bonafide resident of the relevant state.

  • State Domicile seats account for 480 of the 5,076 total seats nationally
  • If State Domicile seats at a campus go unfilled they are transferred to the All-India pool for that campus
  • OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS and PwD reservation applies within the State Domicile pool as well
  • Students without a valid state domicile certificate must apply under the All-India category only
  • Domicile eligibility is determined by the rules of the respective state government

NIFT 2026 NRI and Supernumerary Seats

NIFT offers supernumerary NRI seats at all 20 campuses over and above the 5,076 regular seats. These seats do not reduce the All-India or State Domicile pool.

  • Larger campuses (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli): 5 supernumerary NRI seats per program per campus
  • Remaining 12 campuses: 3 supernumerary NRI seats per program per campus
  • NRI/OCI/PIO proof of status is mandatory at admission; fee structure differs from regular seats
  • Admission is on merit based on NIFT 2026 entrance test scores for the respective program
