BLAT 2027 is the popular name for law admissions at the Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi — one of India’s oldest law schools, founded in 1921. Since 2022, BHU has replaced the standalone BLAT exam with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) conducted by NTA: CUET UG for the 5-year BA LLB programme and CUET PG for the 3-year LLB and LLM programmes. What is BLAT 2027?

BLAT stands for Banaras Law Admission Test. It was the name given to the standalone entrance exam that Banaras Hindu University (BHU) used to conduct for admission to its prestigious Faculty of Law, Varanasi. BHU’s Faculty of Law is one of the oldest in South Asia — established in 1921. For decades, the standalone BLAT was held offline with 150 MCQ questions, 450 marks, and sections on Legal Aptitude, General Awareness, Mental Ability, and English Comprehension.

From 2022 onwards, BHU replaced the standalone BLAT with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The name "BLAT 2027" is still widely searched by students because coaching materials and guides continue to use it. In practice, if you want to study law at BHU in 2027, you must appear in either CUET UG 2027 (for the 5-year BA LLB integrated course) or CUET PG 2027 (for the 3-year LLB or the LLM programmes). No separate BHU-specific entrance exam exists any longer.

BHU Law Programmes at a Glance

BHU’s Faculty of Law is ranked among the top law schools in India. The LLB 3-year programme has 286 seats — one of the highest intakes among central universities — making it more accessible than many NLU programmes. The 5-year BA LLB has around 60–74 seats, which makes that pathway considerably more competitive. Both programmes are affiliated with the Bar Council of India and lead to recognised legal qualifications.

BLAT 2027 Important Dates

NTA has not yet released the official CUET 2027 schedule. The expected dates below are based on the 2026 cycle pattern and serve as a planning reference. Check the official NTA and BHU portals regularly once notifications are released.

BLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Your eligibility for BLAT 2027 depends on which law programme you want to join at BHU. The criteria differ significantly between the 5-year BA LLB, the 3-year LLB, and the LLM. Check each table carefully before filling any application form.

All programmes require a valid CUET score. BHU does not conduct any separate law entrance test from 2022 onwards. The Bar Council of India (BCI) sets the base eligibility standards, and BHU may additionally apply its own institutional criteria as published in the annual prospectus.

BLAT 2027 Application Process

The BLAT 2027 application process has two distinct stages: first, you register for CUET on NTA’s portal; then, after the CUET result is declared, you separately apply to BHU on its institutional portal. Both stages are mandatory — a CUET registration alone does not place you in BHU’s merit list.

Stage 1: Apply for CUET 2027 on the NTA Portal

• Visit cuet.nta.nic.in and create a new account with your mobile number and email ID.
• For BA LLB 5-year: apply for CUET UG 2027 and select three papers — Language (Hindi or English), Domain Subject (Legal Studies), and General Test. These are the papers BHU uses for its BA LLB merit list.
• For LLB 3-year or LLM: apply for CUET PG 2027 and select the Law paper (PGQP72 / PGLAW or the equivalent code assigned by NTA for 2027).
• Choose BHU, Varanasi as your preferred institution and select the specific programme during registration.
• Upload a recent passport-size photograph and scanned signature in the specified format.
• Pay the CUET application fee on the NTA portal and submit the form.
• Save your CUET Application Number, password, and fee payment receipt — you will need them throughout the admission process.

Stage 2: Apply to BHU After the CUET Result

• After NTA declares the CUET result, visit BHU’s admission portal (bhuet.samarth.edu.in or bhucuet.samarth.edu.in — check bhu.ac.in for the updated 2027 link).
• Register and fill the institutional application form with your CUET roll number, normalized score, and personal details.
• Upload scanned copies of mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), photograph, and signature as per BHU’s document specifications.
• Pay the BHU institutional application fee online and submit the form.
• Note your BHU Application Number — use it to track seat allotment in counselling rounds.

Registering for CUET alone does not secure your BHU seat. You must complete the BHU institutional application separately after the CUET result is published. Candidates who miss the BHU application window — even with a strong CUET score — are not considered for allotment.

BLAT 2027 Application Fee

The BLAT 2027 fee has two separate components: the CUET fee paid to NTA and the BHU institutional application fee. Both must be paid. The amounts below are based on the 2026 cycle — NTA and BHU may revise fees in their 2027 notifications.

All fees are paid online through the respective portals. Both the CUET fee and the BHU institutional fee are non-refundable once paid. Complete payment only after verifying all form details — no corrections are allowed after fee submission in most fields.

BLAT 2027 Syllabus

The BLAT 2027 syllabus depends on which CUET pathway you are taking. Here is the subject-wise breakdown for both CUET UG (BA LLB) and CUET PG Law (LLB 3-year / LLM).

CUET UG Syllabus: Legal Studies (for BA LLB 5-year)

Legal Studies is the most important domain paper for BHU BA LLB aspirants. It is primarily based on NCERT Class 11 and 12 Legal Studies textbooks.

• Indian Constitution: Structure and features, Fundamental Rights and Duties, Directive Principles, constitutional amendments, separation of powers, and judicial review
• Sources of Law: Legislation, judicial precedents, customs, treaties, and conventions
• Administration of Justice: Court hierarchy in India, civil and criminal procedure basics, and principles of natural justice
• Human Rights: UDHR, ICCPR, ICESCR, role of NHRC, state human rights commissions, and international human rights mechanisms

CUET UG Syllabus: General Test (for BA LLB)

• General Knowledge and Current Affairs: National and international events, government schemes, science and technology updates

CUET PG Law Syllabus (for LLB 3-year / LLM)

The CUET PG Law paper has four sections of roughly equal weight.

• Language Comprehension: Reading comprehension passages, vocabulary, grammar correction, synonyms and antonyms, para jumbles, and sentence-based questions
• General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Science and technology, sports, politics, awards, Indian geography, history, and current events from the past 12 months. Questions on the Constitution and recent legislation also appear here.
• Logical Reasoning: Coding-decoding, number series, seating arrangements, blood relations, directions, data sufficiency, and statement-conclusion questions
• Computer Basics: Hardware and software concepts, operating systems, internet terminology, MS Office tools, cybersecurity awareness — questions are at a basic level and scoring

BLAT 2027 Admit Card

The BLAT 2027 admit card is the hall ticket released by NTA for the CUET exam. There is no separate BHU-issued admit card — you download the CUET admit card from the NTA portal and carry it to the exam centre.

How to Download the BLAT 2027 Admit Card

• Go to cuet.nta.nic.in once NTA announces the download link
• Click on the admit card link for CUET UG 2027 or CUET PG 2027 as applicable
• Log in with your Application Number and Date of Birth
• Download and take 2–3 colour printouts on A4 paper
• Check all details — name, roll number, exam centre, date, and paper codes — immediately after downloading

The admit card is mandatory to enter the exam centre. You must also carry a valid government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving Licence — along with the admit card on exam day. Entry is denied without both documents.

BLAT 2027 Preparation Tips

BLAT 2027 preparation means preparing for CUET — either CUET UG (with Legal Studies and General Test) or CUET PG Law. The two exams test different skills, so your strategy should vary based on which programme you are targeting.

For CUET UG — BA LLB 5-year

• NCERT Legal Studies is non-negotiable: The Class 11 and 12 NCERT Legal Studies books are the single most important resource. Cover all chapters thoroughly — Constitution, human rights, law of crimes, torts, and family law are high-priority topics. Most of the 40 domain questions come directly or indirectly from NCERT material.
• General Test needs consistent daily practice: Unlike Legal Studies, the General Test rewards speed and accuracy built over time. Aim for 20–30 questions per day from logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude materials. Do not leave this section to the final weeks.
• Language paper — reading speed and accuracy: Focus on grammar rules, reading comprehension speed, and vocabulary building. Read at least one editorial or article every day to build pace.
• Weekly mock tests: Take at least one full CUET UG mock test per week targeting your three required papers. Review wrong answers after every test — pattern recognition in errors is more valuable than doing more tests without analysis.

For CUET PG Law — LLB 3-year

• Current affairs are critical: GK and current affairs is one of the four equally-weighted sections. Read a daily newspaper and maintain a monthly digest. Focus especially on recent legislation, constitutional amendments, major Supreme Court judgments, and national policy changes.
• Logical reasoning — practice every day: Seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, and coding-decoding are reliable mark-earners if practiced consistently. Aim for 10–15 reasoning questions per day.
• Computer basics — do not skip this section: Many law aspirants neglect it and lose easy marks. Cover hardware components, software types, OS basics, internet terminology, and MS Office tools. The questions are at a basic level and can be mastered in 10–15 hours of focused study.
• Language comprehension — time management matters: Practice CUET PG Law previous year papers specifically for this section. The time pressure (90 minutes for 75 questions) means slow readers often lose marks in comprehension.

General Strategy for All BLAT 2027 Aspirants

• Start preparation at least 4–5 months before the expected exam date
• Use official CUET mock tests from the NTA portal alongside previous year papers
• The -1 negative marking in CUET PG means skipping an uncertain question is better than random guessing — every four wrong answers wipe out one correct answer’s gain
• Track section-wise accuracy in every mock test and focus more time on your weakest section in the last 6–8 weeks
