The Pair Of Mustachios Summary
- The pair of mustachios is a light humorous and hilarious story. The story revolves around two main characters and their moustachios Khan Azam Khan and Seth Ramanand.
- Khan Azam Khan, a tall man, middle-aged man, who wears a tiger mustache is not wealthy but claims his ancestry to be from an ancient Afghan family who works in Mughal courts.
- Seth Ramanand is a common wealthy man. He’s an influential member of the village. Seth Ramanand wears a mustache similar to a tiger mustache. He claims himself great by wearing them.
- One fine day, Khan goes to Seth’s shop to pawn his wife’s gold nose ring. There he notices the upturning tendency of the hair on Seth’s upper lip. Seth’s this upturning makes his goat mustache look almost like Khan's own tiger mustache.
- Seeing this Khan started abusing Seth by calling him a “lentil-eating shopkeeper”, “swine” and “seed of a donkey.” He asked Seth to turn down the tips of his mustache.
- Khan believes, Ramanand has no authority to wear his mustache similar to a tiger mustache as he has not been privileged in the same way. According to him, Ramanand belongs to the lower class.
- Seth reverted back by turning down his mustache as he is very warm-hearted. He never gets angry but triumphs on his customers like Azam Khan with his tactful nature and by infuriating the so-called pride.
- While Khan was departing after negotiating his business, he noticed one end of Seth’s mustache had come down at his behest, and the other end was still up.
- But, Seth defeats Khan at the end of the story by turning up the tip of his goat mustache similar to Khan’s tiger mustaches. This madden Azam Khan, who sells all his property to Ramanand.
- In the end, all laughed to see the Khan give a special twist to his mustache as he walked away maintaining the heroic honor to the symbol of his ancient noble family, though he had become a pauper.
