The Photograph Summary

In this autobiographical poetry, Shirley Toulson- the poet and journalist, has beautifully captured her emotions as she remembers her mom by looking at an old picture of hers. This poem does not follow a particular rhyme scheme, but it has a lot of poetic devices.

• In the first stanza of the poet the author describes the old picture of her mother vividly.
• In the next stanza, the author goes on to describe the story behind this photo. She also mentions how similar young faces look old now.
• In the third stanza the author talks about how her mother used to look at this picture when she was old and tried to talk about her cousins.
• In the last stanza, Shirley Toulson explained how much she misses those times when she and her mother used to talk about this photo and laughed together about it.
