The landscape of the Soul Summary
The landscape of The Soul is a unique yet simple lesson, through which we learn about the imagination power every artist must have. This lesson is also about how a simple piece of art can be observed through various lenses of imagination. As this lesson is divided into two parts, the readers will be able to learn about different Arts and their historical backgrounds of them very clearly.
- The first part of this lesson is an extract from a book, written by Nathalie Trouveroy. This part talks about a famous Chinese painting and its historical background with a few stories.
- The first story is about the famous Chinese Painter, Wu Daozi, who was hired by Tang Emperor Xuanzong to decorate the walls of his Palace. The story includes how the painter vanishes through the pictures he created on those walls.
- The second story is a similar one, through which the author wanted to make us aware that the true magical form of any art is only known to its creator.
- The next story is about a blacksmith, who fell in love with the daughter of a painter. These stories are narrated by the author to express the beautiful and mystical elements of the art. The author also talks about the Chinese philosophies related to art.
- The second part of the novel is an article by Brinda Suri, published in the Hindusthan Times back in 2005. In this part, the author explained the term ‘art brut’, which is the art of the people who had ‘no right’ to create art.
