NCERT Solutions for Class 10 English The Hundred Dresses-II Summary
- The Hundred Dresses-II is a continuation of the first part written by Eleanor Estes. The story begins when Wanda Petronski’s father sends a letter to her school.
- In the letter, his father disclosed about moving to a big city. He also mentioned that Wanda wouldn’t have to experience being teased either for her unique name or the dresses she wore.
- Upon reading the letter, the teacher, Miss Mason, was shocked after learning that Wanda was teased with spiteful comments by her classmates.
- Madeline began feeling guilty about not stopping Peggy from mocking Wanda. She could not concentrate on her studies and started having nightmares about the event soon after.
- Madeline finally decided to meet Wanda and clarify her intentions. She wanted to let her know that it wasn’t her intention to hurt her emotions. Madeline decided to visit and inform her about the drawing contest.
- Once the school was over, Peggy and Madeline set off for Wanda’s residence at Boggins Heights. Unfortunately, by the time they reached, Wanda and her family already deserted their residence.
- In her remarks, the girls wrote a letter informing her about the win. However, days passed and Wanda did not respond ever since. Soon during Christmas, Miss Mason, her teacher, received a letter addressed from Wanda. In it, she mentioned the sketch she drew for the contest and also gifted those sketches to Peggy and Madeline.
- Upon receiving the gifts, both girls pinned them in their bedrooms.
- Soon after, Madeline realized that the sketch somehow resembled her face. She hurried to Peggy and asked if she noticed it too. Upon realizing, they understood what wrong they did to a girl as talented as Wanda. They finally had a revelation of how racial discrimination can impact human lives.
