The total measure of the three angles of a triangle is 180°

In a triangle, there are three sides and three angles one at each vertex. Irrespective of whether the triangle is an acute, obtuse, or a right-angled triangle, as per the angle sum property, the sum of the interior angles is always 180o. This property is one of the most frequently used theorems in geometry.

Example From Class 7 Chapter 6 The Triangle and its Properties

Ques. Determine the value of x in the following triangle:

Determine the value of x in the following triangle

Ans. In the given triangle,

∠EBC + ∠ABC = 180° (forms a Linear Pair)

⇒ 135° + ∠ABC = 180°

Therefore,

⇒ ∠ABC = 45°

Similarly,

∠ACB + ∠ACD = 180° (forms a Linear Pair)

⇒ 120° + ∠ACB = 180°

Therefore,

⇒ ∠ACB = 60°

In ∆ ABC,

∠BAC + ∠ABC + ∠ACB = 180° (applying the Angle Sum property of triangle)

Therefore,

⇒ 45° + x + 60° = 180°

⇒ x = 180° – 105°

Hence,

x = 75°
