Natural resources are the resources which exists without the influence of any artificial influence or any modifications by the humankind such as solar energy, wind, water, petroleum etc. The resources available on the Earth and the energy from the Sun are necessary to meet the basic requirements of all life-forms on the Earth.

The Role of Atmosphere in Climate Control

Atmosphere helps provide protection from radiation and cosmic rays emitted by the outer space. It acts as a blanket to sheild the Earth from harmful conditions.

Example: Why is the Atmosphere Important?

Solution: Atmosphere is important due to the fact:

  1. Important gases, including carbon dioxide and oxygen are found in the atmosphere.
  2. Plants and trees require carbon dioxide, which is found in the atmosphere, for photosynthesis. It rather helps sustain life.
  3. The Atmosphere is responsible to protect organisms from damagin UV rays produced by the Sun.

Biogeochemical Cycles

Biogeochemical cycle can be defined as the continuous flow of nutrients between biotic and abiotic components found in the ecosystem. 

Some of the vital biogeochemical cycle found in a closed system include:

  • Carbon Cycle
  • Oxygen Cycle
  • Hydrogen Cycle
  • Phosphorus Cycle
  • Nitrogen Cycle
  • Sulphur Cycle

Ozone Layer

Ozone layer can be defined as a region present in the Earth's stratosphere responsible to absorb most of the Sun's ultraviolet radiation (UV rays) to sheild organisms from damaging conditions.

Ozone layer depletion can cause several reactions.
For example, when chlorine is discharged, it can potentially react with ozone (O3) in order to generate chlorine monoxide (ClO) and oxygen (O2).

Thus, Cl + O3 = ClO + O2
