DMER Tamil Nadu has extended the NEET UG 2026 Round 1 registration, choice filling and locking deadline to 5 PM on August 20, 2026. Seat allotment processing runs on August 21 and results drop on August 22 at tnmedicalselection.net.

TN NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 1 Deadline Extended to Aug 20

The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Tamil Nadu has issued a revised Round 1 counselling schedule for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 at tnmedicalselection.net. The new deadline is 5 PM on August 20, 2026. Registration, choice filling and choice locking must be completed by then.

The earlier cut-off for the three steps was August 19, 2026. DMER issued the fresh notice on August 18, 2026. The extension follows a similar move by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The MCC had revised its All India Quota counselling calendar.

Round 1 registration opened on August 13, 2026 at 12 noon. The extension applies to state quota MBBS and BDS seats. Seat allotment will now be processed on August 21, 2026.

Why Was the Deadline Extended?

The MCC recently revised its All India Quota counselling calendar. Tamil Nadu has aligned its state schedule with this central change. This gives candidates one extra day for state choices.

Many students apply in both MCC and state counselling rounds. A synced schedule helps them plan seat preferences with clarity. It also reduces clashes between the two parallel processes.

How to Complete Registration and Choice Filling?

The full process runs online on the DMER Tamil Nadu portal. Candidates must finish all three steps before the extended cut-off. Late submissions will not be accepted after 5 PM.

The steps begin with registering using NEET UG 2026 login details. Candidates then pay the counselling fee and upload documents. Choice filling and choice locking follow the payment stage.

Choices once locked cannot be edited later in Round 1. Students should review each college and course before final locking. The locked preferences drive the August 21 allotment run.

What Happens After the Round 1 Result?

The Round 1 allotment result will be published on August 22, 2026. Allotted candidates can download their orders from August 22 onwards. The download window closes at 12 noon on August 28, 2026.

Candidates must physically report at the allotted college by August 28. The reporting deadline is 5 PM on the same date. Missing this cut-off will cancel the Round 1 seat.

Why This Matters

The one-day extension is short but critical for aspirants. Missing the 5 PM cut-off means losing Round 1 eligibility. State quota Round 1 holds the largest pool of TN medical seats.
