Remarks

The college is excellent, but if you are not ready to work hard, this is not the college to be in. Also, the college will suit you more if you want to remain in academics. The course being theory based, is not suited for industries. The research scope is also limited due to lack of funds.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Mathematics course is theory based. It is little old and outdated, but so are most courses in Kolkata. But you have good value for the course. If you want to persue theory in academics, this course will improve and test your understanding.

Placement Experience

2

The college doesn't provide formal internships. But if you are a natural sciences student, you can work in labs with the faculty for research purposes. It doesn't pay, though. Since this is a academic instituition, job opportunities are limited. Although there is a placement cell, but students generally prefer to continue in academics here. Or they move on to better research instituitions in India and abroad.

College Events

3

The college is a hotspot for events. Freshers' fest is held every year. The annual union fest, Milieu, is also held. It has one of the biggest budgets among the fests in Kolkata. There are also academic and literary fests and seminars alongside these cultural ones.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a state run University, the fee structure is quite low. This is done to ensure that financial stature of the parents do not come in the way of merit. It is negligible for even lower income groups. For even poorer and BPL students, there is waiver for tuition fees if applied through proper channel beforehand.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college doesn't offer any scholarships per se. Fees being bare minimum, there is no option for loans too. But regarding scholarships, you however become eligible for several government scholarships like Inspire and JBNSTS which pays handsomely besed on your performance in Class 12 boards and college semesters.

Campus Life

3.5

Extracurricular activities are very good. You have a football ground where you can play football or cricket. There is also an indoor badminton court. Labs are pretty well maintained, but not up to the Central University standards due to lack of funding.

Hostel Facilities

3

I had not opted hostel facilities. The hostel facilities are basic. Not top notch. Although, much has been revamped, it now includes WiFi and is more clean, generally. The fooding facilities are basic, however.

Alumni/Alumna

The best thing in the college is the bonding between the juniors and the seniors. The seniors are very helpful and would go out of their way to help the juniors. The college has excellent alumni. Two Nobel laureates had studied in this college. There is a alumni association which gives membership to the alumnus.

Admission

There is a eligibility criteria for applying. Students getting more than the cut-off marks in Class 12 are eligible to apply. This cut-off varies from department to department. Historically, science departments have more cutoff than humanities departments. Now, those who are thus eligible to apply, must appear for an entrance examination which is pretty tough. Based on how you perform in this exam, you are scored and a merit list is prepared. The higher your rank is in this list, the better your chances are of getting admission. You may apply for more than one department too.

Faculty

4

Faculty is very good. The faculty is chosen after a rigorous screening process and only the better ones are allowed to teach. Being a University, PhD is a minimum qualification for the faculty to teach here.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
