VIT Vellore, B.Tech Mechanical with spec. in Automotive
Reviewed on Jan 26, 2016

Remarks

VIT is good and I'd say if you not getting IIT Delhi Mumbai Chennai and Kanpur, then go for VIT.

Entrance Preview

I sat for all the exams as everyone sits, was getting ceramic and textiles in IIT so dropped the idea of IIT and moved to VIT. I chose this university because of its good infrastructure and exposure to the international curriculum.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course was fantastic, my course was affiliated with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune. We had one year in Pune so that was the most fun part!

Internships Opportunities

For an internship, we got Schneider Electric, Maruti Suzuki, Honda cars. The experience in an internship was quite good. As far as the stipend is concerned, I got 0 but that's true, if you are a mechanical or another core stream then no stipend

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements and Jobs are really good at VIT. Talking about the core companies, they do see JUST GPA, no matter you'd do projects and international internship, they gotta screen out on GPA. And moreover, VIT will get you a job that's for sure.

College Events

4

In VIT, sports given a big priority. Every month you will be having a sports meet. National tech fest and cultural fests are very famous there. They call out Rock bands and regional cultural singers for the fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee at my time was quite low, I paid 65, 000 per year but now I think it's double. One should check on their website. Hostels cost you somewhere around 40k to 90k depending on your comfort level, 90k if you going for a single AC room.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, They do offer scholarships to students who are really in need! The university takes care of Tamil Nadu's local people a lot. if you are from TN and comes under the horizon category then do apply for financial support. Moreover, if you are in any other category also, VIT has a name, any bank will give a loan. On the day of counseling, many banks are there to provide education loans without guarantee!

Campus Life

5

Campus life is actually interesting. After the classes get over by 7 in the evening, you can see students going to music clubs, etc to jam and hang out. On weekends you have a Movie club showing movies in the ANNA AUDI. If you are a Tech Junkie then they have teams and clubs which makes cars and aircraft for international competitions

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are pretty good. Keep in mind its Vellore, the hottest city in Tamil Nadu. VIT hostels I'd say really cozy. I have been to government colleges and VIT hostels are like a 3-star hostel in front of them.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, this is where VIT lacks a bit. The alumni network is badly created. We as alumni, don't get any information on alumni meets and etc. We have no clue where are other students and VIT is doing right now

Exam Structure

`Exam structure is very tight. From starting you will be surrounded by a Weekly quiz which gets counted for in the final. Then comes the biweekly Continuous Assessment Test (CAT) followed by a mid-term and then comes the final term end exam.

Faculty

4

Faculty for the core subjects like CFD, FEA, and other final year courses was dull but comparatively better than other colleges. Labs and Library I could say VIT has got the best If you can pave your own way, then go for VIT.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is relevant and provides a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It prepares students for real-world applications, but more industry projects, practical sessions, and updated teaching methods would help. Exams are generally well-spaced and moderately difficult.

Placement Experience:

Placements are generally decent, with students becoming eligible from the final year. Several companies visit for recruitment, offering roles in technical and non-technical fields. Packages vary by company, and placement opportunities depend on skills and performance. Many students secure jobs, while others pursue higher studies or competitive exams.
