Remarks

The college has changed considerably since my encounter with it in 2011 during my admissions. The architect for this drastic change was former director Dr. Srinivasan Sundarrajan. Some of the good changes which happened in front of my eyes were free wifi, 24 hrs electricity supply, student council empowerment etc. And, one of the first thing which one will notice while entering college campus is the clock tower (once criticised for showing correct time twice a day), now rings a sound preceded by an announcement ‘We are proud to welcome you to NIT Trichy ‘ followed by Jai Hind.

Entrance Preview

I took AIEEE (now JEE MAINS) 2011 & scored 287 in the exam. I opted for this college because it is one of the best engineering college in India. The admission process is pretty simple; one has to qualify the entrance exam then give the preference list as per their choice of branch & college, accordingly the option is allotted to candidates as per their rank in various rounds of counselling.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is quite vast with almost equal weightage to electrical & electronics subjects along with few computer science subjects. There are also some elective courses(total of 8) starting from 5th sem, in which you can opt for electives from core dept to other dept such as Humanities, etc.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, my college provide summer/winter internship. The stipend and type of work basically depends upon the mentor and project you get. If you are a part of heavy funded project, you can get handsome stipend.

Placement Experience

5

Being a top NIT, it has ample job opportunities.More than 200 companies visit college campus to offer campus placement. The placement percentage is as high as >95% with average package of around 6 lakhs per annum. The few of the companies are MICROSOFT, nVIDIA, GOLDMAN SACHS, DE Shaw and Co., Cisco Systems, etc.

College Events

4

Pragyan is an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 20121:2012 certified student-run organisation. As a techno-management fest, Pragyan has evolved into a significant embodiment that reveals to the world and students alike, the infinite opportunities in science and management. It is a four-day fest dedicated to giving a stellar experience in the field of techno-management. The fest offers a plethora of programmes; ranging from events, workshops, exhibitions, guest lectures, crossfires to offbeat contests and infotainment. Attended by some of the most renown personalities of our time and with an international outreach in 60 countries, Pragyan is a great platform for the realisation of dreams and new findings. The talent displayed so far, promises not just a change in the future, but the future itself.

Fees and Financial Aid

More than 40+ cash scholarships are available for students to support them in their studies. Some of them are: National Council Educational Research Training / New Delhi, Indian Oil Corporation Limited Scholarship, Engineers India Limited (EIL) Scholarship, Silver 72 Trust Scholarship (1972 Batch Alumni Scholarship). I got last mentioned scholarship during my study time one can easily avail loan facility through the SBI Bank situated inside the campus itself. As the bank is official banker of college the process is made easy and loan are easily sanctioned compared to other bank.

Campus Life

5

The spirit of being in NITT is the freedom to pursue academics, other personality development extra curricular activities. The best part about NIT Trichy is that the intake of students is from all over India of different states/culture/language. As most of the students stay in hostel, it gives them a chance to really know about each other. Everyone learns to respect the different lifestyle of each individual. Being an engineering college the gender ratio is pretty thin. Participation in Extracurricular activities like NSO, NCC, NSS, literary clubs, trekking clubs, photographic clubs and students' chapters of professional societies give student ample opportunity for developing leadership qualities.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel facilities are very good; almost all the hostels are newly constructed or, renovated. The room are available with sharing as well as singly occupied options. There are 18 boy's and 5 girl's hostels. Together they accommodate 5320 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Two more hostels (2 for boys) are under construction. So, more than enough rooms are available to accommodate all the college students. There are 10 messes available to cater the hostel residents. Each mess has a warden. Committees of elected student representatives manage the messes. The hostel office consisting of Hostel Manager, Senior Superintendent and supporting staff looks after the day-to-day operations of the messes.

Alumni/Alumna

The National Institute of Technology formely Regional Engineering College's Alumni Association (RECAL) was formed with the objective of having a forum for past students of Regional Engineering College / National Institute of Technology, Trichy. Over the years, RECAL has associated itself with the institute in every possible event and been a part of the activity. The alumni network of the college is very wide spread across the globe which help students in scoring jobs, research grants/courses abroad etc.

Exam Structure

A academic year is divided into two semesters and each semesters have two cycle tests followed by the semester examination. The weightage of cycle test is 20% for each, 50% for final exam & rest 10% through assignments/continuous assessment. Each semester have 2-3 lab exams also. The days can be hectic sometime during last few days before exams, otherwise its pretty chilled out.

Faculty

4

The faculty of the college are highly educated (almost all are Ph.D. or pursuing it along with teaching) and they try to engage the students in the classroom to make the course interesting by activities, real life examples, practical demo etc. Almost all of them are easy to approach (of course there are some few exceptions) for any help whenever required.
