Remarks

The college is doing an excellent job and I should suggest every girl to try to be a part of the lady brabourne college and enjoy your college life. Best of luck.

Entrance Preview

In zoology department of Lady Brabourne College there is no entrance test though in other departments such as English there are entrance test. I opted for the college because it is one of the best colleges in kolkata and I had heard that the department is also very good.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The college follows the syllabus of the University of Calcutta. Every topic of Calcutta university syllabus were covered in the lectures. Extra facts related to the topics were also taught by the faculty members. The classes held in regular basis and the course was completed sufficient before the main university examination.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not provide any internship programme itself. If any student wants to work on any project work under any particular faculty with self financing then it is possible.

Placement Experience

4

Most of the students of the college are well placed. Students are placed all over the world doing research or jobs in their field. Most students go for higher studies after completion their Undergraduate and Post graduate courses in this college and after that they do jobs or researches. Every year some multi national companies do visit the college campus though with many job opportunities. But not many students go for those jobs due to lack of interest as they want to study further in their field. If any student is interested in these jobs they can definitely go further and join them. But as the students are from general stream the companies give them an offer to study MBA by taking loan from them and pursue with the job. That is to be very careful about I should say to the students. Whatever you do, give it a second thought and do go through the terms and conditions of the scheme. In my third year Wipro came to the college campus I remember.

College Events

5

The college is really a cultural organization I must say. Throughout the year there are a lot of events celebrated in Lady Brabourne College. There are Annual Sports, Bhasha Divas, Independence Day and many more. The most important and special event is "The Reunion" and "The Annual Function". In these two functions the same performances are repeated. The function contains almost every shades of the culture of the college. This function opens with Sanskrit sloka dance performance and closes with Urdu drama. In the function there are also English drama , Bengali drama, Spanish song. Not only cultural performances in these function the extraordinary students are awarded and the annual report of the college is presented. "The Kaleidoscope" is the college fest organized by students' union. It is held during December. For every Brabournite it is nothing less than X-mas. Saraswati puja is also observed by the students in the Hostel. Besides all these events there are a lot of seminars, workshops etc organized by the college or by different departments. Students can join those events as well.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a Government College the fees structure is very much reasonable. In fact it is very less. Besides the fees has to be given in two to three installments so that even poor students can avail it. The fees vary year to year. approximately it is rs 2000/- to 3000/- per year.

Fees and Financial Aid

No the college does not provide any scholarship on its own. But if a student is eligible for a scholarship she can avail it.

Campus Life

4.5

That is a fact that Brabourne does not have any politics. The college has a students' union but that is strictly to control the activities of the college students. It does not have a political colour I have never seen that anyone in the college is doing any type of discrimination among the students based on caste. Instead of that the college always prefers students who really are poor or from a poor background. Instead of caste the college believes to help the needy people. There is a very much homely environment inside the campus. It is a girls' college.

Hostel Facilities

3

As I myself did not live in the Hostel I doubt I can understand the exact problems faced by the students who stayed in the hostel. I am giving this answer based on what my friends and juniors from college hostel have shared with me. The college has a good hostel and the security system is not that bad. But I think the Security System of the hostel should be tighten up a little more. The water supply of the hostel was not that good. The college should improve the condition of the hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very cordial and cooperative. They really are. From the first day of college students gets help from the seniors. I feel myself lucky to have such seniors. Even after college they are always happy to help. The college has official alumni association and they are really active. the alumni runs a night school for the poor children of slum areas.

Exam Structure

The college organizes an array of examinations ensuring the preparation of the students for the final University examination is good enough. after the commencement of the course there is a class test after two months. then in mid November a Mid-Term Exam is held. after that before two months of the final university exam there is a college test that takes place. In college test students have to prepare the total syllabus and give the exam. Even the Practical portion also student have to give.If a student qualifies the college test then only she can appear for the main university exam. If someone fails to qualify she has to meet principal ma'am and principal ma'am will consider the situation and then fate of the student is decided. By doing so the college maintains the good results.

Admission

I was a student of Zoology and to get admission in this department there was no entrance exam. The score obtained in higher secondary was considered by the college authority and merit list was published. Admission was held according to the merit list basis. The cut off marks of that merit list usually remains high.A second counseling also held that year as some students have not continued the course.

Faculty

4.5

The college has a very good bunch of faculty members who work together. The understanding between all Faculty members of all departments is a plus point of this college. Faculty members are really a complete package of friend, philosopher and guide. They teach very well of course. If any student has got any problems they try to solve it in the class and if it is not solved then and there student can ask the faculty outside the class as well. The faculty members are very much qualified. They have really in depth knowledge of their respective subjects faculty members are very much cordial and cooperative. They treat the students as their own children. Believe me I am not saying anything extra about the excellent Faculty members they really are very good. There is a synchronization between the departments. Any student can approach any faculty member of any department and help would be provided.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
