Entrance Preview

COMEDK, 12576 was my ranking. I opted for this college since it is said to be one if the best in Karnataka(top 10) and also one among the top 100 colleges in India including IITs and NITs. There is no interview conducted.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is pretty good. However a few subjects are outdated. However the electives provided are trending subjects like data mining and internet of things. Some teachers however do not know to set the syllabus, since they make all the important topics as self learning topics.

Internships Opportunities

No, It does not provide internships. However during 2016 placements a few companies offered internships.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements are excellent if you're in the IT and circuit branches, which is the best reason to join this college. Placements are above 90% every year. The placement office does its best to make sure everyone is placed. If you're in the mechanical or civil branches, around 40% will be placed in core companies and the rest have to settle for mass companies.

College Events

2

There is automobile show every year, where many antique cars as well as super cars are put on display. There is annual college fest called techNIEks which is celebrated over a span of 3 days. The participation is pretty active. It includes ethnic and funky day. If you're looking for pretty ladies, ethnic day is the best day.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The CET fees was 36 k in 2012. COMEDK was 1, 51,000. No extra fee is taken. Gym facilities are available for students at 1000 per year. And since scholarships are available(only for CET students) the fees seems pretty feasible. If a student is placed in either a mass or core company , he/she must pay 8k to the placement office and if placed in 2 companies must pay 10 k.

Fees and Financial Aid

I do not have any idea about loan facilities. But ST and SC castes have their fees heavily reduced (only CET admits). And scholarships are available to other CET admits as well. I am not aware of the details since I was admitted through COMEDK.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life is boring. The college seems dead most of the time. There are entrepreneurship cells which do not focus on their goal. There is an IEEE student branch as well. Neither are well managed. The fest is mediocre. Males are higher than females. In CS and IS the ratio is equal whereas in mechanical you hardly find girls.

Exam Structure

Each semester lasts for 5 months. There is sufficient gap between the first and second internals but not enough between 2nd and 3rd. There will be no choices during internals. All questions are compulsory. There will be one lab exam after 3rd internals. The final exams have just one day gap which is kind of hectic. There will not be many choices in the finals as well.

Admission

I was a COMEDK admit for the year 2012. At first I was disappointed with the college campus since it is quite small and shady. It does not live up to its reputation when it comes to campus infrastructure. The admission proceeds is very smooth. You just have to apply for colleges online after your CET and if accepted, just present your documents to the office.

Faculty

1.5

The faculty in the information science branch was below average. You might find just 2 to 3 lecturers who are dedicated teachers(mostly the senior lecturers). The rest are just new recruits who have just cleared BE and have zero knowledge about the subject.

Placement Experience:

From your 7th semester you become eligible to get placed and it is mandatory to get internship before you get placed which the college helps you to get and around 400-500 companies visit, and a good amount of offers are made by them. The average package stands somewhere around 11LPA -12LPA and the highest goes to 50LPA-60LPA and the median stands around 9-10LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As I'm in 1st semester. I will update you after my exams. But one good thing is that from this year, internals and externals will hold same weightage i.e., 50/50 If you can score more than 45% in internals which wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'll ask most the questions from class notes. Most of the faculties are average I would say. But some are good professors too. I chose CSE because I find these topics interesting since junior school. And everyone is just jumping into cse is a reason too lol.
