Entrance Preview
I took RPET i.e Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test and got 3391 rank in that. I was very clear in my mind that I want to take mechanical engineering branch, so I decided to personally go to nearby colleges. Here, in SU the mechanical department is having the best labs in the nearby districts even.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course structure is quiet different from that of RTU, but is more similar from that of IITs. It is very clear that in terms of course, it is well tried to copy IITs but not even near them as they focus on innovation. Here in SU a well appreciated effort is given to practical sessions and course is more practical oriented. This gives an advantage over RTU. One major pros of curriculum is the 'industrial session'.
Internships Opportunities
Very limited companies. Most of them are from Sangam group of industries. And the rest are from the nearby region only. A few big names like Syntel, TCS, RedHat, CISCO comes only for IT and CS branch students. For mechanical branch college does not provide a clear help, just the names of the industries and whom to contact.
Placement Experience
This is the worst feature of the college. Training and placement cell of college is an ill department. From the date of first batch of college till now, students got placed on the basis of their own efforts. Instead of placement drives students in 7th and 8th semester are given exemption from attendance so that they can go for interviews.
College Events
Technical festivals are not much celebrated in college, though every year annual cultural fest naming 'la union' is celebrated. It is much like a annual function of a school. In this only the practical working models and exhibitions are organized. Every year electrical department organizes a national conference on topics related to electrical engineering, energy etc. this national conference is held in either February or March.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees is average. As compared to other RTU college this college gives the major advantage is of fees. Annual academic fees is 60 K and Hostel fees is 65 K for single room, 50 K for double shared and 40 K for triple shared or more. At the time of admission your supposed to deposit the fees of two semesters at once that is of the first year which is about 1.1lac including double shared hostel.
Hostel Facilities
There are 3 boys hostel single shared, 3 boys hostel double shared and 2 boys hostel with triple sharing. 2 new hostels are being constructed with more rooms than these. One girls hostel which does not have any single room but double and triple sharing only. Most of the students here are locals so hostels are not full generally.
Exam Structure
Evaluation system is exactly same as that of RTU. Marking scheme is also similar but passing marks are 30 out of 100 for each theory paper and 40% for every practical paper. No matter what every student is supposed to attend practical class and cannot miss it. It is very hard to find time to go to library, in the lunch time one of the faculty member is always busy in labs with bunch of student.
Admission
At the time 10+2 final boards exam a detailed notice is available in newspaper about RPET and SUAT both ( generally SUAT notice comes just after the RPET notice). For RPET one can get admission form from any government polytechnic college. After submitting the form one get admit card for the examination and result is announced almost 30 days after the paper. One gets his ranking in RPET and total marks.
Faculty
As far as faculty of Mechanical department is concerned, faculty is superb in terms of motivation. Almost all faculty members are from IITs and a few are M.tech from NITs. H.O.D Mr. Bhandari is M.tech from NIT Chandigarh and a serious all rounder. H.O.D gives focus on the practical application of the concept and is always ready for the student support.
