Remarks

Established in 1954, Kirori Mal College is one of the renowned and prestigious institutions of Delhi University. With good NIRF rankings, along with accreditation by NAAC with "A++" grade, KMC is a great place for students belonging to different streams. Moreover, KMC offers more than 40 programs of graduation and post-graduation. My experience at the time of admission was pretty good as a separate inquiry desk was available and volunteers were also present to help out in case of any doubt. For getting admission into BA Hons(Economics), minimum 45% aggregate marks in 12th class and must have passed Business Mathematics/ Mathematics/ equivalent paper. Cutoff for BA Hons(Economics) usually remains on the higher side for KMC and can even hit 98.5% in the first cutoff. After meeting the cutoff, necessary documents have to be submitted to the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The curriculum of BA Hons(Economics) aims at the overall development of the student by providing both theoretical and practical knowledge of every aspect. However, the faculty is not so good at KMC. Teachers don't pay the required amount of attention to students and the teaching curriculum. Due to this, students usually do not enjoy the curriculum and have to study on their own. Good CGPA is possible only if the student studies from the very beginning. The student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1. Tests and assignments are used for calculating the marks for internal assessments.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Avenues, the placement cell of KMC, works harder to provide good internship opportunities to students. From digital marketing to business research internships to finance, students have the opportunity to find a place in them according to their interests. Placement cell offers complete details about it on their Whatsapp group as well as on Facebook group. A candidate can get a stipend ranging from INR 5000 to 16000 depending upon the job roles and the position offered by the company.

Placement Experience

4

When it comes to placement opportunities, Kirori Mal College occupies a good place. Many reputed and prestigious companies like KPMG, D.E Shaw, Deloitte USI, Tresvista, etc do visit our college but only a few students get the opportunity to get placed. The percentage of getting placed is just 10% of the total applicants. The highest package is INR 20 LPA while the median salary package is INR 6 LPA. The students from the final year become eligible for applying to these companies. My further plans after Batchelor's degree involve pursuing a master's degree in the economics field.

Fees and Financial Aid

Kirori Mal College charges INR 37050 for a three-years undergraduate course. Usually, there are no such hikes in the fees, and is feasible for students. The hostel facility at KMC is good and offers one of the best hostels in DU. Charges are around INR 12000 exclusive of electricity charges. Kirori Mal College scholarship and financial assistance are provided to the SC/ST students. Other scholarships, in the form of fee concessions, are available to deserving students.

Campus Life

4

Renaissance, the annual cultural fest at KMC, is renowned for the performance by top singers and other celebrities. It is usually conducted in the month of February every year. The college gives a good focus to the sports and extra curricular activities and offers separate playing spaces for different sports. The library is also good and students are allowed to issue books as per their needs. Absence of proper infrastructure is a thing that most students don't like about KMC. Being an old building, desks and blackboards are not in a good shape. All in all, the campus life is decent and a student can join different societies in order to explore more about this institute.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting
