NIT Calicut, B.Tech, Computer Science and Engineering

Reviewed on Aug 21, 2021(Enrolled 2020)

Remarks

NIT Calicut is one among the top NITs and it NIRF rank is 23. I chose CS branch here because I heard that NITC has the best faculty for CS than any other NIT. The admission was through JEE Mains and then after rank list is published we have to give our college preference order in top to bottom priority and according to that we get our college. To know more about NITC visit: www.nitc.ac.in

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose Computer Science because it was my passion. I like to do coding and I am interested about tech that's why I chose CS over all other branches. The faculty at NITC is excellent and the CS faculty is the best over all other NITs. The faculties here have a great degree, knowledge and experience. Their teching method is also great. the term exams occur mostly in 2 months and it is pretty much hard but you can score good by great determination.

Class Size: 100Course Fees: INR 600000 per year

Internships Opportunities

4.5

One can apply for internship by the end of 2nd or 3rd year. And it's a very great experience to get internship in renowned companies.

Placement Experience

The placements are pretty good at NITC. At NITC there is 100% placements for CS students and for other branches also its awesome. And to sit in the campus placement one will need minimum 7.5 or 8 cgpa according to different companies.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The total cost of a B.Tech program is almost 6.5 lacks for 4 years. There are also different types of scholarship available like CSS, MCM etc. And also you can apply for private scholarships. And also one ca apply for educational loans at bank for financial assistance.

Campus Life

2.5

Since it's corona pandemic, our batch has not visited campus till now. We have seen only photos and videos that our professors have shown us. But the clubs, events and social groups are highly active and the club inductions were all conducted online and it was all fun. The Club events are also online now. We had gaming events, some other fun tasks and all was online this year 2021.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Because of this corona pandemic we have not went to our campus, so we have not seen the hostels yet. But our seniors said it's all good and also it is like for 1st year you will get a room with other 3 people to share, in 2n and 3rd year you will get a room where 2 people share an for 4th year you get a single room for your own.

Admission

There was only a online exam for admission and that was JEE Mains and the rank you get in this exam decides your future college. This is the exam one have to write to get into any NITs and alos some other private colleges. I prepared 2 years for JEE Mains by going to entrance coaching.

Location could feel like quiet and it’s not in town area
Those who prefer more active atmosphere I would not recommend here

TIST , Great college , fun events and more

Likes

Our seniors passed out with flying colors joining different companies or starting their own. There's a good focus on peer learning and student communities which is pretty nice. Canteen food is decent and labs are great
Most people and professors are friendly and they encourage you to try out new things.

Dislikes

Hostel water , busses are pretty fast. Sometimes roads are a bitt rough

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is under KTU syllubus do it's fine. There is a change in curriculum coming 2024 which i assume would make a lot of good changes. The curriculum gives you a head start For most of your work, you need to on your own but the faculty is there to help. The frequency of exams is weekly tests + monthly exams. Its not too difficult of an exam.

I feel like staffs in my department are pretty good, atleast they fullfill their duties to cover the portions in right time
We have placements training, offered free of cost by college itself
Notes and necessary materials for studying are provided from college itself, and most teachers don't force on buying textbooks or other materials

Dislikes

College is located in aarakunnam, which is a bit remote area hence for various needs we often need to travel a few kilometres even for basic necessities
The road to collage entrance is a steep road, and currently it's under construction (it's been a yr)
Students are required to park their vehicles outside the college, as there is no parking facilities for students inside campus

Placement Experience:

Currently placements are bit low, due to inflation, but compared to other colleges like KMEA, etc we have better placements similar to Muthoot and all. We have placement training, and other supports which can help us crack aptitude exams and prepare for placements Almost 70-80% students are placed every year, with an avg package of 4LPA

My Experience at NIT Calicut

I chose this college because of strong reputation , good placements and quality of education. I applied to other NITs and state engineering colleges and received some admissions, but selected this college because I preffered Electrical Engineering. In some higher ranked colleges, I was getting lower-preference branches,so I chose a good branch in a good college instead. Admission is based on the JEE Main score through JoSAA counselling. The admission process is through JoSAA Counselling where students come to the college after getting alloted but before that the student needs to clear the JEE Main Exam to get admitted into the college. And one has to do PCM in their 12th. Cutoff is Generally Between 97-98.5 percentile for General Student to get Mechanical Engineering...Read More
