Remarks

I have applied to Shyam Lal college Delhi university for the course of BA honors English. The admission is only merit-based on 12th final marks best of 4 subjects. The first cut-off in 2016 is 90% for English honors. I have got admission in 5th cut off with 80% and my age eligibility is 18+. There is a separate bench for all courses in the college. First, they calculate the marks of a student who comes for admission. If they pass the cut off then they have to verify the documents which are required for admission. Documents including 10th and 12th mark sheet, quota certificate if any, or school migration certificate, Identity proof like Adhar card, passport size photos, and Application form of a college that applied online. There is no counseling session. Direct admission takes place.

Course Curriculum Overview

I have chosen this course because I used to listen to English literature environment is unique as per other courses. I have chosen this course to improve my English communication skills better in writing and in speaking. The faculty is good and members are qualified. The student percentage is 60. The difficulty level is medium.

The companies that are hiring interns for the internship from our college is accounting firm, A plus academy etc. The fresher trainers are the only role the students get as fresh graduates. The placements are good.

Placement Experience

In 3rd year of the course, students are eligible for placements. Only the high scorer students get placements. I have planned for preparing for a government job after completing this degree. I have applied for various vacancies.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees are not that high as DU has charged fewer fees according to other universities. There has a 3-year course that has 6 semesters. Every year has 2 semesters of 6 months duration. We have to give examination fees each time was 1200 approx but it is not fixed.

Campus Life

College Annual fest is conducted each year in the month of Feb or March. There have been a huge collection of books related to all courses or journals in a library. Classrooms are big or small every type of room available. Sports are conducted every year. Dance, other comic activities, Singing group is there.

Likes

Personally I like my college's environment. It's so friendly and cooperative.
It's an all girls college so it's so comfortable as it is away from male gaze.
I highly do recommend this college for study and personal growth.

Dislikes

I somewhat dislike it's canteen. The food is not as good as our expectations.
The prices in canteen is very high with low quality food.
I dislike the thing that a few professors favour some fix students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Yeah the curriculum here is so strong, it's student friendly and ability enhancement. The courses offer here are relevant and can be applicable in our day to day lives. It gives us insight into ourselves.

My college was a girl's college. There are maximum 60students in a class. Prints were quite cheap in the college cafe.
There were many fest functions in my college. I also participated in the dance fest in my first year. We also used to go on picnics from college.
India's chief guest at the annual function was M Venkaiah Naidu.

Dislikes

College fees were very high for general category people.
The behavior of many teachers was quite rude and arrogant as if they were teaching us for free.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I wanted to do PhD in Political Science but due to percentage I took up BA program. Teachers used to provide notes but mostly I used to be off. There was nothing wrong with the college. Exam timings were good.

Infrastructure of the college is very up-to-date.
College crowd is very active and diverse, giving opportunity to learn and explore.
Teachers are very well educated and friendly towards the students.

Dislikes

Sports facilities at the college need to be improved.
Few teachers methods of teaching are traditional and outdated.
There is strict criteria for attendance, to maintain 66.7 percent

Placement Experience:

Final your students are eligible for the campus placement. Companies visited are HDFC Bank, Zomato, Swiggy, mahindra,EY, Deloitte and others. Highest package was around 30 lacs per annum and the average package is around 4 lakhs. Job profiles were mostly business analyst, research and development, PR and others. I will prepare for civil services examinations after clearing my graduation.

Our placement services is efficient and effective which always comes up with quality companies in terms of employment and package.
We have solid infrastructure which includes medical rooms, basketball ground, main ground, fest ground etc.
Our faculties expert in their teaching of respective subject where the teaching method is technology based and mentorship quality is demand based

Dislikes

Our course curriculum is relevant but sometimes it lacks little practical learning.

Placement Experience:

Student set in the placement from 5th semester where where is companies visited college for the campus placement such as KPMG, Zomato Deloitte, etc and number of offers made were not explicitly disclosed by the college and highest package was 25 lakhs and average package was 4 lakhs and profile offered were finance, marketing, etc around 70% students placed from my college and my plans after the graduation is to pursue PHD.

Moments of happiness

Likes

I liked the ration of girls and boys it's almost same .
The teaching method of teachers and the library.
College infrastructure and various opportunities and sports ground .

Dislikes

Events in college are usually too short like till 5 pm only .
Classes starts at 8:40 in winters atleast it should start by 10 .

Placement Experience:

English hons is not a course in which placement is that widespread as far as I'm aware . But our college provides placements for other courses like b.com etc and we have placement cell which keeps updating us on internship or placement opportunities and overall package is quite good .

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Honest review of ddu

Likes

The teaching faculty is really nice and polite. They usually help students even when u contact them after college hours.
The engagements and the quality of the social interactions in this college is also very good and very uplifting.
The quality of the infrastructure is very good compared to other colleges in du, considering its very new.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because the thought of learning about the literature of the older times was pretty exciting to me while I was choosing the course. The curriculum however does prepares you if you want to continue ur academic journey in the English field.

Ramjas the heaven on earth

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.

DU life is better than any other college life

It depends on the merit list and the entrance exam that is CUET. The merit list is declared on the DU website. I searched for it on the collegedunia website and other websites. Application fees for UR-500 Rs. and OTHER-250 Rs. The admission process is quite similar to other colleges of DU. And I chose the BA program, so my eligibility criteria were a 12th pass in any stream.
