Loreto College Kolkata, B.Sc, Geography

Remarks

The Environment of the college is safe for girls and the college takes great care in terms of academics. The faculty is more or less good and I've been hearing good things about the college and it's excellence from its seniors. The only drawback is it's very conservative in it's nature, thoughts and actions. There are some useless events that occur in the name of religious sentiments. Otherwise it is aided with good libraries and also good and working instruments for lab support. Overall a good college to take admission to.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Faculty of Geography is partly nice because not all of them are good teachers but they are helpful. The student teacher ratio is 2:13. Most of them are doctorates and few are still pursuing it. Teaching method is mostly long lecture hours and practical aspects done hands on. The term exams were not so difficult if studied.

Internships Opportunities

1

No Mostly content writing jobs are what people offer you in this stage and there are various organization that offers it. Loreto College for some reason doesn't approve internships done from Internshala because they involve monetary charges.

Placement Experience

0.5

There is no chance of placement after passing out from the college. You need to go for higher studies after completion of the degree. The college mainly teaches English as a post graduate option in B. Ed otherwise all the other courses are just dedicated to graduation.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee Structure: 18330 approx. Per year No opportunity for campus jobs Financial assistance might not be available. Internships is to be done on your own. There will be no support or guidance for that. The college helps in preparing for different competitive exams and also regular mentoring sessions for career counseling and discussion of problems in one on one basis in each semester.

Campus Life

3

We have an annual fest called Samagam. Books and Journals are available at the library and book fairs are held once a year by many renowned organizations. Seminars are held every month upon various subjects and even cultural events are encouraged on every special occasions. Dance and Music societies, both Eastern and Western are there. Wildlife Environment and Nature Society is also there. Discipline Specific Clubs and Committees are also there. Student Council runs these clubs and also the Societies are run by the student-elected President, Vice- President. Student Council is also elected by the students in an elaborate election process.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There's no hostel facility in the college itself. The nearest to the college is Youth Women's Christian College. I am not sure about the accommodation facilities but the hostel has a very peaceful environment and it is withing 5 min of walking distance from the college.

Admission

It was a simple interview round after I was shortlisted. There used to be an entrance before but it doesn't happen now. Minimum 90% and above is required to apply for the course. The selection of course along with the elective subjects selected by the students under choice based credit system, will also be evaluated on the basis of the marks of 10 th and 12th and comprehensive marksheet of overall performance in school life. Maintenance of regularity is a must as the college is very particular about attendance.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My passion and a bit of curiosity in International Relations led me to choose this course. The curriculum, in fact, prepared me well for further academic pursuits. For improvement, educational excursions and internship opportunities should be made available. The exam is held twice a year on semester basis, with papers set at a moderate to difficult level.
