Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am doing my undergrad in CSE with a specialization in Bioinformatics. Bioinformatics is a booming field with the need for bioinformaticians increasing day by day. I conducted a proper industry analysis and felt drawn to this domain. With the huge amount of genomic and proteomic data being generated, there is an increasing need for people who can create and work with databases and software like Genbank, EMBL, Uniprot, Genetic Algorithm, Systems Biology, etc. There are hardly 80 to 90 students in our stream so the faculty-to-student ratio is pretty generous. In most of our program core and specialization elective courses like Biological Database, Analytical Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, and Computational Biology, we had a student ratio of roughly 1:35 We are taught by highly Senior Professors in Grade 1 faculty who have done their Ph.D. The teachers address all our doubts patiently and teaching is interactive and cross-questioning is encouraged. The difficulty of exams depends on the faculty

Generally, placements start from the 7th semester. There is a Placement and training cell that guides students. We regularly receive emails about various internship and placement opportunities on the university email id. Some of the companies that come to offer placement include Citi bank, Deloitte, Microsoft, Amazon, Qualcomm, Samsung, Morgan Stanley, American Express, Wipro, TCS, etc The highest package offered was 1Cr PA by MOTORQ for SDE roles Average Package 8.19 LPA for SDE roles 80% of students got placed in the last placement season. I plan to pursue a career in industry and go abroad for a Master later

Fees and Financial Aid

Generally, there is nill fee hike for a term i.e. if you are pursuing your degree from 2020 to 2024, then the fees remain constant for you throughout your term. It may or may not increase for the next batch. There are several tiers from tier 1 to tier 5 with tier 1 having to pay the lowest and tier 5 the highest. Scholarships: VITEEE scholarship under "GV School Development Programme" Smt. Rjaeswari Viswanathan Memorial Scholarship The scholarships are in the form of fee waivers with state and central board toppers getting 100% fee waivers. 75% for Rank 1 to 50 in VITEEE. 50% for Rank 51 to 100 and so on.

Hostel Facilities

Some rooms vary from 1 bed to 6 beds sharing each of these is further divided into 2 categories AC and non-AC. I live in a 2-bed Non AC room in E block. We have 2 large beds, 2 study tables,2 chairs, a night lamp for each study table, 3 power points, a fan, a mirror, 2 windows as well as 2 large cupboards in our room. Each student needs to buy a mattress. There are shops within the campus as well as outside. The weather is fine and I don't feel the need for AC. There are 3 kinds of messes: Veg, Nonveg, and Special. I have opted for the veg mess. The menu is issued at the start of each month. Rice, chapati, sambhar, Rasam, Dal, Curd, Salad, Fryums, Coffee/tea/milk are a staple during lunch and dinner. The sweet dish as well as dishes like Paneer butter masala, Bhindi, Chole, Biryani, Chowmein, Manchurian, curry, and baingan ka bharta shuffle depending on a particular day. Breakfast includes Bread, butter, jam, Poha/Vada Pav/Pav Bhaji/Dosa/Uttapam, etc.

Admission

During the admissions, the percentile in Jee Main and Advanced along with marks secured in PCM subjects in class 10 and 12 Board, were considered to generate the rankings. The application form is available on VIT's official website.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is relevant and provides a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It prepares students for real-world applications, but more industry projects, practical sessions, and updated teaching methods would help. Exams are generally well-spaced and moderately difficult.
