Course Curriculum Overview
I got into B. Tech Chemical engineering department based on my JEE MAIN rank. The department has about 20 faculties at this instant and around 75- 80 students in each batch from 1st to Final year. The faculties present currently have all done their M.Tech. and Ph.D. from the top and old IITs and they teach through both traditional ( blackboard, visualizing, tests, etc.) and Modern teaching methods( PPT, use of smart board, projectors, online quizzes, and assignments, etc.). In a semester, 2 minors and an end sem exam are held. The gap between each of them is about 45 days and is fairly easy to pass if one studies carefully. Stress is given on both theory and numerical depending on the subject. One can achieve a 7.5 sgpa easily with some effort.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are offered to students in very large numbers and almost everyone gets placed for an internship. Companies that visit for internship are Google, Samsung, hp, dell, BPCL, TATA, Amazon, reliance, HMEL, etc.
Placement Experience
Students in the CSE branch start getting placed at the end of the third year and the beginning of 4th year for other branches. The percentage of students placed varies with the department that they belong to. The 2023 batch in the chemical engineering department has around 90 percent of students placed currently and other students haven't applied for placement for other reasons such as GATE, UPSC, and M.Tech. A very large number of companies visit the campus both core and non-core such as Google, Amazon, Samsung, reliance, violin, Deloitte, KPMG, TATA, hp, dell, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
If a student has a family income below 5 lakhs, then the student avail of any scholarship from the wide number available for them in the institute. Scholarships are also available for female, transgender, and disabled students. The total fee for any general category, a male student belonging to another state is 6.5 lakhs for 4 years. It is far lower than this cost for other students based on their gender, category, family income, disability, and State of origin. So, I think that the fees are totally affordable even without any stipends or assistance. But there isn't any financial support for male general students whose family income is above 5 lakhs.
Campus Life
The campus life is harmonious with a large number of gardens and a very scarce number of vehicles running inside the campus. People respect and are often curious about each other's culture, place of origin, etc. 2 cultural fests are conducted: UTKANSH( biggest cultural fest in the institute), March and Bharat Dhwani( foundation day), October; and a Tech fest: TECHNITI in the month of February. The minority communities and groups are allowed and promoted to conduct and celebrate their regional festival inside the campus with the SANSKRITI club. A Library is present and open till 5 pm in the evening during normal days and till 12:30 am during exams, which offers a wide range of books for all kinds of subjects for every department for every course to issue and read with a good internet network. A reading hall is also provided for students for 24 hours for studying purposes. An athletic fest is also conducted in the institute in the month of February for promoting athleticism among students.
Admission
I am a student enrolled in the B.Tech program of NIT Jalandhar, so that is the course I will be talking about. I applied through JEE MAINS and I received a Chemical branch in the college. The cutoff for Chemical engineering was around 40000 during my year. The College is an NIT, and like any other government institute, the admission process is done by JoSAA and CSAB. The eligibility criteria are based on the ranking system of JEE MAINS. The institute also offers reservation benefits to students belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and Home state( Punjab), as well as to Female students. So, one can always look for past year cutoffs and eligibility criteria for various categories for an application. The application dates, fees, and form can be found on JEE MAIN website and further information can be found on the NIT Jalandhar website. The admission process is very smooth and has been the same over these few years, so one can always find information on how to apply over Google and YouTube.
