- Faculty members as they used to be strict for no reason, bunking classes was a bit difficult for the students of mechanical dept.
- College administration needs to be more supportive and make the college a bit like college not like school
Course Curriculum Overview
Choosing Mechanical Engineering was out of interest since the topic of automobiles always fascinated me. I wanted to learn in-depth about their working and design, so opted for this course. Well for my department, teacher to student ratio is pretty good, almost 1 teacher to 6-7 students easily. All the faculty members of the Mechanical Dept are experienced and well qualified (strict also...) Their teaching methods are also conventional but some are transitioning to digital modes of teaching, which makes it all the more interactive. The semester has 2 minor exams and one major end-semester examination, each in a gap of almost one month. Passing the exams was easy. We used to study the night before the exams and scored more than 50% easily on those exams.
Internships Opportunities
Good internship opportunities for everyone if you work hard. Not everyone can get an internship but opportunities are equal for everyone (not considering the CGPA factor, that matters during placement also).
Placement Experience
Placements this season was pretty good, better than in previous years. A lot of different companies came for recruitment, be it companies for core jobs or non-core jobs. Stats are available on the official site.
Fees and Financial Aid
Considering that it is the National Institute of Technology, NIT Jalandhar is pretty expensive like semester fees is 88000 for hostellers, to which hostel fees is also added which is approximately 22500 for the semester. Some students can also avail for scholarship but has to maintain a certain grade to continue availing it.
Campus Life
There are many clubs in the college. For example, we have clubs for theatrics, dance, music, debating, modeling, fine arts, and many more. We also have technical societies of each branch in the college, and also Robotics club, coding club, automobile club, etc. Sports facilities include a football field, 2 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, 4 badminton courts, 2 tennis courts, table tennis tables in every hostel, and a multi-facility gym. In a year, there is one technical fest, techNITI, and one cultural fest, UTKANSH.
Admission
So, I wrote down JEE-Mains exam of 2019 and cleared the cut-off pretty easily. To get into this course of Mechanical Engineering at NIT- Jalandhar, I got an AIR of 27000(approx), availed the OBC reservation seat and got into the institution. The application form, details about the fees and the procedure are all available on the official site of NITJ, i.e., nitj.ac.in. The admission process was way too hectic as you had to go through all the counters and procedures, all manually, that could be done digitally easily. Rest everything was okay.
