What Students Say
Likes
- Campus life is excellent. The infrastructure, and the facilities provided is very good.
- The hygiene and cleanliness of the college.
- The huge number of activities and clubs the college offers. The college also promotes research works.
Dislikes
- Mess food is very average, also the menu is not renewed very often.
- Communication gap, because of the fact it is situated in South India, so only way to communicate is using english. But some locals can't even speak English.
- The college is very far away from the main city. So we need to travel by local trains or by road if we need to go to the city for any work, or for entertainment purposes.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is B.Tech (Computer Science Engineering). I chose this course because of my interest in the subject, as well as the excellent placement my college offers in this department. The faculty: student ratio is close to 1:3, which is a good number. Most of the faculties I have came across till now are PhD holders. The teaching method used by most of the faculties is by using pre-made presentations by the college faculties. They use it to lead the course systematically, while also using the conventional, explanation on the blackboard. They give questions and also try to explain the practical implementation of the topics. The exams are properly placed throughout the semester to give enough time for the students to prepare for the next exams or do any other co-curricular activities they might be interested in. We have 3 cycle tests, and finally semester exams every semester. The difficulty of the exams is moderate. Just give enough time to every subject.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies offer internship opportunities. I am in 2nd year so I don't have much idea, nor do I want to type down the data copied from other sources. But from interacting with the seniors I have come to know that the college does provide good internship opportunities.
Placement Experience
I think after the 6th semester, students become eligible for campus placements. A lot of big companies visited the college. 13069 offers were made by 1306 companies. The maximum salary offered was 1 cr. per annum. And the average salary was 10.5 lpa. For my course, the percentage of students who got placed was more than 95%. I plan on getting a good campus placement after getting my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The hike in fees for my course is 50,000 each year. The scholarship is entirely performance-based. During the admission process, you can get a scholarship based on your rank in SRMJEEE. After that, based on your performance in the semester exams, the top-scoring students get some scholarships.
Campus Life
Aarush is the technical fest and is held during the odd semesters. Milan is the annual cultural fest and is held during the even semesters. The library of the college is huge. You can get all kinds of books you will possibly need during your course. Classrooms are well equipped with ACs and arrangements for presentations. Comfortable chairs, and spacious classrooms. The college encourages sports and extracurricular activities as much as academics. There are facilities for almost all of the sports. There are also ample clubs in the college run by senior students, which are so many that they cannot even be listed down here. Just any area or field you are interested in, you can find a club here. The club members only work together on projects to make websites for the accessibility of the other students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are quite well. They are very clean and well-maintained. Security guards and CCTV cameras make the hostel campus secure 24x7. The cleaning staff come every day to clean all the rooms. Also, clean, cold, and normal drinking water is provided 24x7. Mess food quality is average. It is hygienic but does not taste very good. So I will rate it as average. The hostel registration process happens online and is based on a first come-first serve basis. So you need to be quick if you want to get the room you want. If I rent a room, I will go to the estancia society, which is 1km from the college. It is very safe and nearby to the college.
Admission
The admission process was very smooth. We had to register for the entrance exam of SRM, which is SRMJEEE. Based on your rank in the entrance exam, and the phase you have your exam in (which also determines the total number of available seats left), you get a choice of branches in which you are eligible to take admission in. We also have rank based scholarship system, which gives you a waiver in the tuition fees based on your rank. For example, I gave the SRMJEEE-2022. I scored a rank of 205 in the third phase of the exam, which was held in the last week of June. Based on my rank, I got a scholarship of 25% in tuition fees, which is equal to 1 lakh. The application form, application fees, and application dates are all published on the official website of SRMIST. They have a dedicated webpage for admission processes, explaining everything.
