What Students Say
Likes
- Beautiful campus, amazing infrastructure, helpful faculty.
- Amazing labs, high research output. There are many patents and research papers published by VIT and it's students per year.
- Amazing events and very vast opportunities to explore your fields of interests. You'll find people of all kinds here.
Dislikes
- The language barrier. Most people here don't speak hindi or english so we basically have to communicate in sign and body language.
- There is absolutely nothing in the city of Vellore to actually explore. Also the restrictions for hostel and campus intime is a lot and the outing timings are very less. Strict overall.
- The number of students are a lot. A total of 40,000 students makes this campus overcrowded.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Electrical and electronics engineering for the sole reason that it has the highest scope for research. The course structure designed by VIT is absolutely amazing. The FFCS (Fully Flexible Credit System) system is probably the most organized system I've ever seen while comparing it to my friend's colleges. FFCS lets you choose your own timings, subjects, number of subjects and professors.
Internships Opportunities
I don't have much insight on the internship opportunities but I do know that the institute offers one industrial internship as a part of the course. Overall, you'll get a good insight into the corporate world as well as research, if you want to pursue it.
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester onwards, the students are eligible for campus placements. The highest placement in 2022 was 1.15 crores per annum, offered to 3 students. The college offers almost 100% placement, the top 20% of students can get placed at 20LPA or above.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure usually depends on your category. You're assigned a fee category during your admission, which depends on your rank, the higher the category, the higher the fees. Overall the fee isn't that high up to category 3. Scholarships are offered based on your CGPA and VITEEE ranking. Apart from that, there are no campus jobs that I'm aware of.
Campus Life
GraVITas is the tech-fest that is conducted in the month of September, which has a lot of interesting events, Robowars being the best and the most hyped one. The cultural fest is named Riviera, where there are multiple events, like competitions and all. Apart from that multiple top singers, standup comedians, and other celebrities are invited to participate in the fest. The library is one of the best in the country, the Periyar Central Library has thousands of books for each and every branch and almost any book you'll ever need during your college life.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are of two types, AC and NON-AC. There are various blocks, some very high quality and some old. The hostels are assigned based on your choice and the priority is given based on your CGPA. Overall the hostels are quite good, at least better than a lot of colleges. The mess food is served by different caterers, which are privately owned, so the quality of food varies from caterer to caterer but overall the food quality is good. Some caterers actually serve healthy and tasty food. There are 3 types of mess, veg, nonveg and special.
Admission
The admission process is through the VITEEE(Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination), which has a marking scheme of +1 for correct and 0 for incorrect. The syllabus is that of our class 11th and 12th NCERTs, the same as JEE, and has the additional subjects of logical reasoning and English. The total exam is 120 marks, and you can easily get into VIT.
