VIT Vellore, BE/B.Tech

Remarks

College life is pretty chilled in VIT as one can enjoy and do whatever they want to do. There are gyms, stadium, tennis court, badminton courts inside the campus. There is very minimal tolerance for the Public Display of Affection in the College. Otherwise, the college provides pretty much all the facilities required for the overall development of an individual. Vellore as a city is not that advanced but you will pretty much get everything you need in or around campus. There are pretty good tourist places nearby campus like Pondicherry, Ooty, Coorg, Bangalore, Mysore, Kodaikanal, etc.. One can enjoy these places over long weekends and be back in time for college. College is pretty much connected by rail and road network though air link is still missing. My experience during my time has been pretty good and the life has been memorable.

Entrance Preview

For Entrance, there is a common Entrance Examination conducted by University itself known as VITEEE( VIT ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION) and students are selected and called for counseling based on their merit list and ranks produced in VITEEE. I knew some seniors in college and the ranking of college is pretty good along with other facilities. So I took admission and landed up here. No, there wasn't any interview process involved in the admission procedure. I was always interested in Field jobs and had little exposure to Civil as my father is in the same field and thus grew interested in the same.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is pretty refined and gets modified with pretty changes every two or three years. There is a lot of focus on practical learning as most of the subjects have been changed to Project-Based Learning which requires a student to study and learn about subjects and get practical knowledge about them. Yes, for those who are interested there are plenty of options for research activities as all the faculties are P.hd. and thus promote research activities and according to a recent ranking by MHRD ranking University has been given a lot of points on research-based activities. There are plenty of elective options provided in the college with varying options to choose from. Mostly all the subjects are open to students like Transportation Natural Disaster Ground Improvement Techniques Earthquake Engineering Industrial waste management Solid waste management Etc.

Internships Opportunities

College doesn't provide internships as such but they bring companies that offer internships with an average stipend amount from ₹20,000-₹30,000. The experience varies from company to company and from place to place.

Placement Experience

4

The placement is pretty good for CSE and IT branches as mostly 90% of individuals get placed. There have been more than 200 companies that visit the campus every year. For other branches, there are companies too that take individuals for Analytics profile. Around 70-80% of students get placed every year. Major companies that visit the campus every year are Microsoft, Adobe, TCS, Infosys, Blackrock, Saint Globain, L&T construction, etc. The average package lies between 6-8 lakhs generally.

College Events

4.5

There is one Main Technical Fest called GraVITas which has more than 200 events with an average participation of 25,000 students every year with the management team of over 200 and faculty staff support above 50. The cultural fest is known as Riviera and it is bigger than GraVITas as it attracts a footfall of 40,000 every year. The organization is pretty well as work is distributed among committees beforehand. College doesn't support much with the funding but helps with other organizations as in Riviera every year many films stars singers sportsperson come so they help in organizing that.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees structure depends upon the branch and rank obtained in VITEEE. There are different categories named 1, 2,3,4, and 5. With fees structure varying from 1,53,000 to 4,28,000 for categories from 1 to 5 respectively. My tuition fees are 1,53,000 for one academic year. And then varies for other branches. For CSE, ECE, IT, Mechanical their fees would be more for them starting from the 2nd category onwards.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college has many scholarship facilities for students who are under the top 10 ranks in their branch. They also provide scholarships in form of concession to VITEEE rank holders up to 1000 ranks. They also give scholarships to underprivileged students.

Campus Life

4.5

College is pretty famous for its extracurricular activities as there are various sports events throughout the year. the college also has over 100 clubs which are dance, music, creativity, etc., and more than 50 technical chapters which function throughout the year with team members of above 100 in all of them.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I am a hosteller for the last 4 years and have enjoyed college life in hostels too. The rooms are 1 bed 2 bed 3 bed 4 bed 6-bed ac and non-ac. There are bunk beds in 4 and 6 bedded rooms. Hostels stay pretty clean most of the time. Get repainted every 4 years. You get a room according to your University rank which is disclosed at the time of room counseling week. There are PGs outside University. Again the cost depends upon the accommodation taken. I am currently in 2 bedded non AC which is for 36,000. And the cost varies from 22,000 to 76,000 of 6bedded non AC to 1-bed ac.

Alumni/Alumna

There is VITAA (VIT Alumni Association) which functions throughout the year in organizing various events and organize various NGO related events. There are different seminars organized throughout the semester to provide insight to students. They do give their changes and suggestions for the development of College improvement and facilities.

Exam Structure

There is a pretty organized system of the curriculum. As the monthly test is organized at 30 working days of college and the next one after almost 60 working days of college. There are quizzes and assignments which depend upon faculties. But students get plenty of time for other club and chapter activities. Life is pretty chilled but there is work time too which one can't ignore.

Faculty

4.5

All the teachers are doctorate holders. Not all of them would be pretty interactive. As it depends on person to person. But what they all have in common is the will to teach. Teachers' experience also varies as 70% of staff is having more than 10 years of experience and others can be rated as less than 10 years. The Standard of teaching is pretty good as all the classrooms have got smart classrooms installed and faculties have gone through proper training for the same.
