Life at MIT Manipal

I chose computer and communication because despite being a relatively new course it is doing very well in terms of placement and has an interesting curriculum. The number of students is quite a lot but it is not much of a problem. Faculty is mostly decent. Term exams were okay and many students failed in one or two subjects but there was the option of makeup exams to give them another chance.

There is an organisation IAESTE that provides students with paid internships, as well as a club called eCell Manipal. They start recruiting from 1st year itself. Internship is compulsory in the 8th semester and placements happen before that.

Placements specifically in the computer related branches is quite good. CSE had an average of 16.9 lpa last year, CCE had 16.3 and IT had around 13 lpa. The placement rate is also very high. A lot of students also prefer to go for higher studies such as MBA.

The fee is quite a lot at almost 5 lakhs per year, but a lot of facilities are provided so it is justified. Hostels are very good, classrooms are all air conditioned and spacious and we are provided with epads during exams.

The fest organised is Tech Tatva, usually conducted in October. There is another bigger annual fest Revels that is held at the end of the academic year in march or april. The library is huge and has a variety of academic as well as unrelated books, and the library building has 7 floors. Classrooms have enough chairs and are well air conditioned. They also have projectors and a camera for recording the lectures. For sports we have basketball court, football ground, gym inside mit campus as well as Maerna near KMC.

My hostel Block 22 is an excellent place to live in. We have double shared AC rooms. On alternate days Zolo staff comes to clean our room. The meals are okay and sometimes good. Registration for hostels starts after the first round of counselling after MET results.

We had the give the Manipal Entrance Test (MET) which was of 240 marks. There were 2 rounds for this test. The application form can be found on the main website of MAHE. There is no reservation but NRI admissions are available.
