Course Curriculum Overview
My course ie Information Technology is a much software centric course which focuses on coding and software courses from the first year itself. It has placements almost similar to Cse. It includes courses such as Dsa, oops, discrete mathematics, linear algebra , etc which are essential for crackung placements of major mncs. Areas of improvement can be admitting more highly regarded professors with in depth knowledge of the subject. We have 2 major exams which is midsem and endsem and then we have 2 quizzes per semester for each course. So almost every 3 weeks we have an exam. The exams are easy but only if one has gone through the topics.
Internships Opportunities
Internship oppurtunities start from 4th sem end. Various companies come to campus for internship. Our college provides students with industry internships, research internships, government internships, etc.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements around 6th sem onwards. Many companies come to visit including google, microsoft, amd, jp,deloitte,etc. The number of offers made is almost around 93 percent of total students. The highest on campus package was around 58 lpa this year which was given to around 12 students by the same company while the off campus highest went upto 2 cr. The average placements of cse, it is well above 25lpa. My plan is to get a ppo asap in a good company.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is very transparent. The entire degree costs around 8 lac for general. Tuition fee is around 70k per sem and hostel plus mess fee is around 30 k. Hikes are very minimal per sem close to say 1000. The complete cost comes to around 1.1 lac per sem but then there are many scholarships awarded regularly for students based on financial and social backgrounds. Most of these scholarships have either income criteria less than 8 lac per annum or social background criteria. Campus employment oppurtunities do exist in the form of tuitions etc.
Campus Life
Campus life is nice and exciting. Events keep happenning almost every day. The campus is green and just beside a beach which is 5 mins away. Two major fest which happen here are Engineer and Incident. Engineer the technical fest happens around October while Incident, the cultural fest happens In march. Our campus has 2 main libraries. One is the central library amd the other one os e-library. Central library has almost all the books one can need for any engineering course. Phd students even get access to premium journals for free. The classrooms are equipped with projectors, well furnished benches and tables, mic installed for teachers and all the benches have plugs for charging.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel is decent and similar to how one would percieve in an engineering college. We get triple sharing in 1st year followed by double sharing ij second year, single or double sharing in third and fourth year. None of the hostels have Ac and the hostel rooms seem a bit old. But nonetheless it is comfortable to stay in and the hostel atmosphere is so enriching and enjoyable that a student cares the least about his/her room. One gets a bed a table chair a shelf and a cupboard.The meal here is really good and makes up for any bad day one can have. Both veg and non veg options are available. We get chicken items on 3 days, paneer on two and egg on the remaining two. We also get incecreams twice a week.
Admission
Admission is through jee mains examination held every year. Eligibility is minimum 75 percentage in class 12th board examinations. The application details can be found on the official website of jee mains by nta. The cutoff for my branch i.e. IT in NITK was somewhere around 3600 for general category. During my year jee mains was conducted twice a year. The difficulty of the paper remains kinda same just the cutoff increases in the second attempt. Order of difficulty of subjects was maths then Chemistry then Physics. The admission process conducted by Josaa was smooth but it would be better if the entire process is made more transparent.
