Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Since the Bsc(physics) course here is research oriented thus i chose it . The skills I'm learning here will become useful for me when i start my life as a researcher. The prospects of interning with researchers while studying is there , and some of my friends last got a chance to it . In the similar fashion anyone who enrolles here can get a chance to gain experience while persuing his/her degree which is good for future job placements . The exam frequency is optimum i would say in an average 2 tests on one paper one mid sem and one end sem . Mid sem or as to say IA usually is of 30 marks (If FM-100 )or 10-15 (if FM-50) IA includes Presentations , Written Tests , Viva , Assignment , Survay , Practicals(Sciences) etc . And the End sem is of the remaining 70 or 40-35 marks usually a written exam .

Fees and Financial Aid

The college fees is usually under 3000/- per yer ie approximately 1500/- per semister , which is to be given online , as far i have seen there is no hike on the fees . Living expenses- If in living in PG: 10000/- pm is the minimum If in hostel : 5000/-pm is more than enough. Scholarships - Scholarships as far as i know is an official process so the student to wants to opt for it must go the deans office and enquire about the details , but rest assured the scholarship amount is no more than 1000-1500/- pm

Campus Life

4

The social life of campus is lively, we have all kinds of students here , so definitely you will find one type that suits you here . The feasts are usually organised by Student Unions. ICON ( Organised by IC(Independent Consolidation)) ISHPAT(Organised by SFI(Student Federation of India ,) MILEAU ( The grandest of events ) These three are the main ones , but we do frequently have something going on in the college. Which is fun . The Library is well kept, and we can mostly find all the books we need for our semisters , we also have MAGAZINES , daily NEWSPAPERS etc , COMPUTER FACILITIES for student use , newly opened GYMNASIUM, SPORTS DEPARTMENT, etc Specially in Science Departments in every classroom we have digital projecters , computers etc. With regard to sport we have , BASKETBALL COURT, VOLLYBALL COURT, FOOTBALL FIELD , CRICKET PITCH , TABLE TENNIS , BADMINTON, CARROM etc . Coming to Clubs and social groups we have GORKHAS OF PRESIDENCY, PUSM(MUSIC SOCIETY) ,NSS etc

Admission

Eligibility - 12th pass (75% above) Should have successfully cleared the PUBDET EXAM (conducted by WBJEE) On the basis of the Merit in +2 and PUBDET marks the admission will be done . ADMISSION DETAILS- Can be found in the university website, BE AWARE OF THE DATES , presidency usually takes the application for PUBDET early on in the month of January so make sure to check the university website regularly for any updates . PUBDET ADVICE- THE EXAMINATION IS TOUGH ! not to set you off but PUBDET is tough , One must be used to the questions asked in WBJEE , and must have knowledge about the basic stuff really really well (Like REALLY WELL) . DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY , i took the PUBDET lightly and almost did not qualify . So beware .

Faculty

4.5

The Faculty members are not only experienced on their research fields and have a lot of knowledge but they are also very good teachers , they always come prepared to the class with the topics they want to cover in that perticular day , also while teaching they also leave room for wonder , curiosity, and original thought. I would say they teach sciences like how it is actually to be taught , and this is not only with Sciences , even i have been told by my seniors in humanities that they teach Such that the student raises questions, understands and comprehends other answers . With students having to give presentation on topics , Having to write Dissertations , Subjective type questions on exmas etc

Other Applied Colleges

Jadavpur University - [JU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Physics)

Personally i was more interested in research thus i figured JU won't be the place for me . Its not that students form JU do not do/ are not good at research (some are actually very good actually) but its about the fosteration of curiosity , and to fuel th

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
