What Students Say
Likes
- The professors are very cooperative and they teach in such a manner that even the mediocre students can understand the subjects.
- No such partiality towards the topper students. Equal opportunity for all students
- The semester system is easier for the students as they appear for two semester per year and the syllabus is short and precise giving the students the time and opportunity to polish their skills in other fields.
Dislikes
- The environment. It's more or less political and every other day rallies were conducted
- Sometimes the question used to come out of syllabus
- The grading system is very harsh . Like not appropriate marks were given for the questions attempted
Course Curriculum Overview
My course was history honours. I was very keen in studying history. It's a subject that attracted me since the school time. I chose this course in Calcutta University because I heard about the faculty before hand that how knowledgeable they are. After taking admission i really like the lectures. The course divided history in three parts modern history, ancient history and islamic history. All 3 were very interesting and beautifully taught by our teachers. But i would say the books available in English were readily available where as my fellow friends who used to study in Bengali had a hard time getting the books. Also there were no study leaves during the internals or exams. A minor break in between would give the students the opportunity to revise each paper as history is already a very vast subject.
Fees and Financial Aid
It depends. If i be honest the bachelor in science students had to pay more for the lab fees and practical where we the arts department students had to pay a bit less than that. Also scholarship like Kanya shree were given to students who's family income was less than 3 lakh per annum and once they get the scholarship they can renew it each year by scoring 70% overall in each semester. And the top 3 students from each department were awarded by booke and memento to encourage them and acknowledge their hard work. No internship was provided which was a major setback.
Campus Life
Annual fest, freshers fest and cultural fest was a huge part of the college life. National social scheme also played a huge part as students from different departments had to take part in the 3 day camp and go and teach the poverty stricken children in the nearby slum area . The rooms were nice but in some rooms there were no AC and the fans are quite old . The washroom are spacious but a bit more clean and hygienic can be done. Karate were being taught to us in our year. There were dance clubs , singing clubs and yoga clubs too.
Admission
The admission procedure was simple. We had to fill an online form and the eligible criteria was 65% in boards exam for general candidate and 50% in boards exam for St/sc/obc candidates. There were no such admision test or entrance examination. If you are short listed then your name would pe published in the first list and then if people selected in the first list don't take admission that seat will be given to people waiting in the second and third list. And the second and third list students will have to compete for the seats as it will be then first time first basis. In my opinion there should be an entrance examination for admission.
Faculty
The professors were very intellectual persons. And the main thing that I liked about them is that they used to teach in bilingual langauge means both in English and the local language. This helped the students coming from state board cope up. They were very helpful and encouraging, always pushing us to rich our highest levels. Even after the class they used to maintain a whatsapp group where if any student has any query regarding the lessons taught they can directly ask the teacher. More than one books were being followed giving the students the opportunity to gain more knowledge and write answers on their own based on other books rather than the text book.
Other Applied Colleges
