Likes
- Few of the professors were excellent, great experience with teaching and taught with examples which made learning very easy.
Dislikes
- The language used to teach is Bengali and as an English Medium student i had alot of trouble understanding and retaining things that were taught. Some of the professors still chose to teach in Bengali after multiple requests.
- Professors go to meetings so often and cancelled class so many times without prior notice.
Course Curriculum Overview
Psychology is a very interesting subject in itself and the curriculum seemed to cover a huge aspect and it was expected to be in detail. The exam pattern only contained long answers, marks ranging from 5-15, from 200-1000 words, the exam was a total of 50 marks. We were never taught to form answers for the exam, we were expected to know everything already, which didn't help. The time given to us was 2 hours which seems fine for a 50 marks paper but the word count that needed to be fulfilled required more time. Exams were difficult, some questions which didn't require much explanation were given for 10-15 marks. Most of the things taught in college didn't come in the exams, so the teaching should have been in accordance with the exam questions.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fee was fairly low, it was 3300 in the beginning. Exam fee had to be paid every semester and it was around 750-850, there were few more charges here and there. We were forced to take Computer classes which cost is 2400. There were scholarship like Kanyashree for 25000, which was quite helpful but the process of receiving it was such a hassle, it took over two years to arrive.
Campus Life
The annual function is held in December mostly, and it incorporates performances by the students, bands are invited to perform too. It gives student the opportunity to explore extracurricular activities outside of their studies. Sports occur once a year, during the summer, it takes places over a period of two day. There are clubs run by the senior students and it's not a compulsion to participate if one doesn't want to. Students learn about different fields in their respective clubs and professionals are invited for lectures. There are two libraries, one for BA and the other one for BSc, there are a plethora of books and the requirements for every subject is fulfilled quite adequately.
Admission
The admission process was quite easy, the forms and the required details are available in the college website. The Eligibility of the course was just 12th pass, it allowed students who didn't have psychology in their class 12 which was needed in my case. No entrance exams were there, admission was merit based. The college website needs to be improved a bit because it doesn't work well all the time.
Faculty
There were 5 teachers for 37 students. The ratio worked well but then there were few teachers who had to attended too many meetings and we missed out on several classes. The learning experience for someone who was studying psychology. Some teachers taught with examples which made the lessons memorable, retention was easier. Other teacher's method was not so helpful where we had to write down what the teacher was dictating at a very fast speed, didn't help with learning and we were scrambling to be able to write everything. Mentorship was top-notch, very supportive and a helpful mentor. All the teachers were very approachable and interactions could be done easily.
