Course Curriculum Overview

4

One of the main reason for choosing Geography is that I've have a keen interest in it starting from my school days and after Economics, this is the best course Humanities stream offers. Syllabus is good but the geographical instruments are primitive and needs to be changed. The timing for examination is ample as the syllabus are covered already before the deadline. Geography helps a lot in civil services and is best for pursuing reasearch works in future.

Internships Opportunities

4

Last year about 544 recruiters offered 1250+ internship opportunities to the students of all courses and of all years. Major recruiters included-Amazon, Accenture, Deloitte USI,ZEE5 and also 35+ NGOs offered internships to meritorious students. Major profiles included - Marketing, Research, Analyst, Content Writing and Human Resources and so on.

Placement Experience

4

For Geography, the placement offers are less as compared to other diverse courses. Talking about the employability rate then after graduating from this esteemed institution there are various doors for future endeavours. In Civil services,in research work and in meteorological department geography is essential as a eligibility criteria. I'll be preparing for Government exams after completing my degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

This year the total fee was of 15550, in first year it was 14500. For PWD the total fee is 200 only, and for other categories it exceeds more than 13000. College is registered in National Scholarship Portal through which students get their scholarship which covers almost 80% of their total fee.

Campus Life

4.5

College provides a diverse culture, exposure and environment which helps us to evolve.College do provide all the basic facilities,it has library,Gym, multipurpose hall, seminar rooms,Boys&Girls common room and so on. The college organise it's annual festival known as Renaissance. Various societies whether it be cultural or literary or departmental they all organise their annual fest6and throughout the session conducts vibrant events, seminars and workshops. The Geography department always conduct workshops and extra curricular activities to engage the students throughout the year. As mentioned earlier sports activities are always given importance in college and Football is the most popular one in our college. Prayas - student led enabling unit helps all the students, especially the PwD and always ensure to create a better environment which fosters productivity and resilience among students.

Admission

Through CUET,admission were taken in the college. The eligibility criteria includes- a bona fide student of CBSE/ICSE/State board and have to choose their domain subjects which were in their boards exam in class 12th. Different cutoffs were released for different categories. For General it was 750+ out of 800(this includes 3 domain subjects and one language paper) and for other categories it was less as compared to General category. Geography was my first preference as only Kirori Mal College offers geography in entire North campus of Delhi University and it was allocated in first allocation list.

Faculty

4.5

There are 15 faculty member in Geography department and our class strength is 80 and their teaching method are outstanding in a sense that they use different styles of teaching and always support us. Department of Mathematics is quite terrible in a sense they have no spare time for other activities. We have semester wise examination which includes grade system. Almost every student pass their exams but some of them get ER(Essential Repeat). The course curriculum is quite good as we have three core paper of which one of them is practical based. and we have 4 other common courses.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
