Course Curriculum Overview

3

I chose Geography Bsc hons, because, for one, I like the subject. Second I think there's plenty of scopes in this subject since it's not very popular yet and can be picked because of job availability. This subject line, is not crowded yet. Although I thought that there would be a little less competition than that I'm facing in real world. The competition level amongst the few students are comparatively higher than I thought of. There should be probably, in my opinion more field surveys, in nearby places if not far, to extend the practicality of the subject because it's easier to understand that way. And probably it's easier to teach with live examples as well. The course even though having a good career scope is not that easy to grasp at all. Especially the practicals require a lot of patience. I barely finish my practical sheets before the exam timings, so according to me that place is a little difficult.

Fees and Financial Aid

per year for three year multidisciplinary course. Other than that the exam charges are different. The admission fees I paid we're 1900 rupees, the registration fees were 500 After that the semester fees differ from 2200-2700 for Geography bsc hons. The Scholarship program is run by the college which provides for 12000 rupees per semister

Campus Life

3

There's one annual freshers in the college and one fest. I think this college can use more extracurricular and programs in order to encourage engagement. The infrastructure is vast and there is no space problem. There's annual sports per year as well. The College has only one club, who has the general secratary as the head for the management group. I haven't seen any cultural clubs and I think it is needed (dance club singinging club artistic club etc). The campus life has not been that great since there's no many place to interact to. But it's decent. The library also has a range of books , mainly study books of the courses are available along with some other story books. There's frequent educational programs to engage students into.

Admission

I applied to Surendranath Women's college, Vidyasagar College, Gokhale Memorial and Acharya Prafulla Chandra College. Amongst that I chose this college because of the NAAC A grade rating and along with the factory that the college is very near to my place. I got accepted into the other colleges but this seemed like an easier approach to me , because along with my course, which is very time consuming I'd rather have a college near my place. The admission process was not that difficult. I applied on the online portal, uploaded the documents. Saw my name on the list and went for the admission procedure on the nearest cyber cafe. As I was done with the documents and payment I went to the college for a stamp and there I was granted my admission. The cutoff marks were above 60% for my course and of course in higher secondary.

Faculty

4

I have not interacted with many faculties , since it's just the second year of my college. But my faculty is quite approachable but the engagement ratio needs to improve a bit. Maybe a bit more friendly aspect would help. I really liked the Political Science faculty since they are very friendly and approachable. The others of some that I liked are Journalist and Education faculty. There's usually two exams , internal and external. Internal taken by the colleges and external, by the university. The internal marks are not biased and carefully given according to the performance as well. Each internal exam has 50 marks of own.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
