Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is best, according to Panjab University. It provides comprehensive growth of students for the industrial and corporate world. The MSTs exams are held two times and finlas one time in a semester.

Placement Experience

4

The placements are average getting 70-80% students placed with a average package of about 5-6 LPA and highest packages are 9-12 LPA. The students are eligible for applying in placements from the 7th semester onwards. In 2024, 25 companies joined on campus placements program and approximate about 60 offers are offered. 55 students get placed on-campus in companies like Infosys, Quark, Xenon Stack, Pie Infotech, Chic Mic, Growth Natives, Josh technologies, etc. Also a student got off campus 25 LPA package from Cisco.

Fees and Financial Aid

During admissions you have to pay a amount of 40,000 to JAC Chandigarh, which is then adjusted into college fees. The college fee changes according to the notifications by Panjab University every year. It is approx 1 Lakh 15 thousands, which have to be paid in two installments, one at the starting of semester and other at the end. There are also merit cum need scholarship, EWS schloarship, etc. also. There are also SC, ST scholarship for punjab region students. There is a Student Society Fund (SWS) of 1000 everyone have to pay every year.

Campus Life

4

The engineering fest was ANANT which used to held in past years, but now no engineering fest till now. Only a Law fest Aequitas in 2024, which is great. There is a library available with lots of necessary books. Only blackboards in classrooms, no projectors. There is a sports meet every year and few extra curricular activities. Some of the clubs of the college are SHOR, VARTA, DCULT, PLATFORM TECH, etc.

Admission

Firstly I have applied for Himachal Pradesh Technical Univeristy, Hamirpur, before joining Panjab University Swami Sarvanand Giri regional Centre, Hoshiarpur. I got CSE there, but left because the placement scenario is not as I expected, as it is a new college and still progressing, while UIET, PUSSGRC has a good placement scenario of 70-80% placements and has a good reputation. Admission to this college is on the basis of JEE Main exam and by appling JAC Chandigarh Counselling. Everyone gets admission here easily as lot of seats remain unoccupied here every year.

Faculty

5

The faculties of the college are very helpful. Some of them are well qualified and passed from NITs, IITs ,etc. Some will treat like your parents, some will not. They help a lot to get everyone pass, provide study materials and references also. A class of 70 students has one faculty lecture and a class of 35 has one lab lecture. There are two MSTs and a final semester exams. The MSTs have choice to give both or atleast one of them and finals are compulsory. The MSTs are easy according to the faculty teachings, while Finals are little tough, but anyone can pass easily by decent studies. If a student has good attitude towards teachers, then it is easy to pass, otherwise some students also have reappears. The course curriculum is good as this college follows Panjab University curriculum.

Interview Experience

4

The only way to get admission in government engineering colleges in India is to crack JEE Main Exam, the same is true for this college. After a decent score in JEE exam, one has to apply for JAC Chandigah Counselling.

Night Life

4

There is a gym in college with only few equipments, a cafeteray also. The timings of the hostel and college are strict for girls while no restrictions on boys. The students used to roam on campus road in night after dinner. The locality is also not safe in night.

Other Applied Colleges

Due to good placements and one of the reputed colleges of JAC Chandigarh

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
