Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose Amrita because the curriculum felt updated and aligned with industry trends. For example, in Computer Science, we had Python from semester 1, AI and ML courses were introduced early As for exams, we had two internals and one end-of-semester exam per subject. Difficulty was moderate, nothing too surprising if you kept up with classes. The internals actually carried more weight (60–70%).

Fees and Financial Aid

I went to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. I got 11k rank in the AEEE. I paid 4L per year since I didn't complete my 12th in Tamil Nadu. There was no break-up provided for the fee. For few of my batchmates it was 3L per year since they had completed their 12th in TN.

Campus Life

4

Campus life at Amrita (Coimbatore) was a good balance of calm and activity. Socially, it’s not as flashy as places like VIT, but there’s definitely a friendly vibe you get close-knit groups and helpful seniors. The campus is peaceful and green, which adds to the overall experience. There are plenty of clubs to get involved in tech clubs like amFOSS and bi0s are quite active, especially if you’re into coding or cybersecurity. Cultural clubs and sports events like Anokha (the tech fest) bring good energy to campus life. Classrooms, labs, and hostels are well-maintained. The Wi-Fi could be better in some areas, but overall, the facilities support both academics and personal development pretty well.

Admission

I had offers from VIT and SRM, but I chose Amrita (Coimbatore) because it felt more academically focused and value-driven. The environment was more disciplined, the faculty seemed more involved I did try for IITs and NITs through JEE Mains, but didn’t score high enough. Looking back, I could’ve managed time better during prep. As for admissions, Amrita has its own exam called AEEE, but they also accept JEE Mains scores. The process was smooth, and the cutoff wasn’t very high for my branch through JEE. Most students I know got in through one of these two routes.

Faculty

2

Looking back at my time in Amrita, I’d say the faculty experience was mostly positive. Most professors were quite approachable you could walk up after class or even mail them, and they’d genuinely help. I personally liked Jaysree Ma’am her teaching was super clear, and she was always encouraging, even when we were struggling. Another favourite among students was Krishnadas Sir from the Kochi campus, especially for how he made tough topics fun. The course structure was credit-based and kept getting updated, especially in CSE. They had Python right from the first semester As for exams, there were two internals and one end-sem, plus regular assignments and labs. Marks were split roughly 70% internal and 30% external. If you stayed consistent, passing wasn’t hard, though a few core subjects were tricky. Overall, the curriculum felt relevant, and most profs genuinely wanted to see us do well.

Night Life

1

Honestly, there’s no nightlife at all around Amrita (Coimbatore). The rules are very strict — hostels have curfews, you can’t step out after a certain time, and even within campus, things are pretty quiet after 8–9 PM. There’s no late-night café culture or hangout spots nearby.

The curriculum is relevant and provides a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It prepares students for real-world applications, but more industry projects, practical sessions, and updated teaching methods would help. Exams are generally well-spaced and moderately difficult.

Placements are generally decent, with students becoming eligible from the final year. Several companies visit for recruitment, offering roles in technical and non-technical fields. Packages vary by company, and placement opportunities depend on skills and performance. Many students secure jobs, while others pursue higher studies or competitive exams.
