Remarks

I have already mentioned lots of positives. The negatives: Mess food (although the students from other colleges say we have much better) need to improve. At times, there's issue related to insects. It is far away from a major airport, so kind of becomes difficult to reach for out station students.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I would say the curriculum is great to make a strong base in your respective field. From my experience in studying in a foreign university as well, I can vouch for the course content at NITs is really good. The only thing we are lacking are the inclusion of new age technologies as well as making computer-related education/ software as a major part of curriculum (in non-computer science courses).

Placement Experience

4.5

The final year is dedicated for the placements, and almost all (baring 2-3% really bad students) getting placed in well known companies. And many also get placed in more than one companies. Regarding internship, if you mean vocational training at some industries, yes, they provide, but there are very few companies to choose from and I would consider those as the last opportunities that student look for. Only 4-5 companies were there which used to provide any stipend. I, hope, it would have changed in the last years. Research internship was not there during my time. The onus was on the students to find, apply and do the work. May be the condition is still the same now. But, there are more students who are going abroad for internships.

College Events

4.5

These things change over a period of time. During my time, we had tech fest and cultural fest. Even, we started SAE club, so we used to conduct another fest under that club as well. There are events like Ganesh Puja, Saraswati Puja were celebrated with great pomp and glory. Other fun events include Holi, Diwali, as well, which are coordinated by the hostel committees.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Back then it was feasible and it has increased over the years. An increase of 2-3 times in 9-10 years, I would still call be feasible or cheap. Compared to the private colleges, NIT has one of the lowest fees in India (can't compare to Jadavpur University, they are dirt cheap).

Fees and Financial Aid

There were scholarships which economically backward students were getting during the study. There are some scholarship competition organized by some companies, for which the toppers are only allowed. Getting a loan was very easy. considering the reputation of the college and the faith the banks have on the students. There's SBI inside the campus as well.

Campus Life

5

There's a lot of extracurricular activities and it comes down to individual what he wants to join. Some students are spoiled for choices as well. There's different clubs starting for singing, dancing, acting, to even doing social responsibilities in the neighborhood. There are Rotary and Leo clubs as well. There are many technical clubs like SAE, IEEE, Microsoft clube, and may be in the last few years many more have come up. The labs were well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Regarding sports, there's almost all outdoor facilities available, that you can thing in India. There's a swimming pool complex as well, opened back in 2009. It was really wonderful addition to the institutes ever growing infra.

Hostel Facilities

4

I would say, NIT Rkl has one of the best hostels in India, both in quantity as well as quality. Most of the hostels have single rooms, except the first year hostel where you have to share with 4-6 people. The facilities include a multi-purpose hall, which has TV and few games as well. Some hostels had gym as well. There's reading room also.

Alumni/Alumna

Among the NITs, it won't be wrong to say that NIT Rkl has THE best alumni network, even, much better than some old IITs as well. They really help a lot when students go out abroad to take part in any competition, be it monetarily or in terms of information. The senior-junior relationship is very beautiful. They not only pass on the books and notes to juniors , but also a vast source of knowledge regarding interviews, exams, internships, etc.

Admission

You apply for AIEEE (presently, there's JEE I suppose). Based on your score, you get a rank and you fill up the online choices. You have to give the college name as well as the course name. Thereafter, the seats are allocated and the choice that remains when your turn arrives, you end up getting that seat.

Faculty

4

To be fair, one can't say all the faculties are good in a college. There will be 30% who will be like the best one and all the students look up to. Another 50-60% are good in the way they teach. But, there are around 10-20% who are either inexperience new faculty or at times their method of teaching is not liked by students, making them not attractive from the perspective of imparting knowledge or guiding students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs
