Course Curriculum Overview

5

I liked the course somewhat, but as we move towards the next semester all of the technical subjects gets faded. I love mathematics but Maths was not taught after 2nd year. Exams were held for two times in every semester: Mid Sem Exam (30 marks) End Sem Exam (50 marks)

Internships Opportunities

3

Unpaid Summer internship (Mandatory) in core are very easy to crack with the help of faculties, as almost all faculties has very broad network. Paid internships are not easy to crack with the less CGPA in core.

Placement Experience

1

For Biotechnology, placements are very poor. The average on campus package of Biotech student is around 6 LPA, and only 5-6 students get placed among a batch of 49 students. Around 10-12 companies allowed Biotechnology for placements. Highest package for Biotech 2025 batch is 11LPA Lowest Package is 3.5 LPA

Fees and Financial Aid

I had a family income between 1 lakh to 5 lakh per year so I paid the following fee structure. Total Yearly Fees: 97680 rupees for First year and 92680 rupees onwards, which includes: Tutiton fees: 41680 Admission/Registration fees: 2000 Development Charges: 10000 Lab fee: 2000 and other charges

Campus Life

5

Campus Life is too good, I am still missing my college days, the friends I made, and the clubs I have joined. All of these things are too good for any student to improve their social skills such as communication skills, Management and leadership skills.

Hostel Facilities

4

For two sharing room, 2 beds, 1 table, 1 chair, two almirahs and 1 balcony. Room has enough space for 2 peoples to live. MBH hostels food quality is very bad. Good quality of food in BH6 and BH7 hostels.

Admission

I couldn't make it to other colleges. As I had completed my 12th from one of the CBSE schools from Ludhiana in 2021, and also preparing of JEE, so whatever the rank I got in the JEE, I only get the NIT Jalandhar with Biotechnology. I am general Caste student, I got a rank of 126807, and got the seat with State Quota.

Faculty

4

There are total of 9-10 faculties in the whole Biotech Department. And my batch has 49 students. Dr. Nitai Basak ( Head of Department) ( Obsessed with Biotechnology) (I Kind of liked him) Dr. A.K Jana ( He is fine, every student wants to do minor/major project under him, becuase he is very chill) Dr. Indu Chauhan (She was my guide for minor/major project, helped me to get the internship, will help only if you reach out to him) Dr. Anee Mohanty (I didnt liked her, she only supports the topper students) Dr. Sumer Singh Meena ( I liked him too, he was also good and some what chill) Dr. Prangya Ranjan Rout ( I liked him alot, he was too good to talk and discuss anything) Dr. Pritam (Not Sure his full name) (new faculty) Dr. Chandi Charan Patra ( He was too good for students, very helpful in writing the review and research paper) Dr. Mahesh Kumar Sah ( He is not so good)

Night Life

3

Gym is good, but I did the gym for 1 or 2 months. Library is very good. It has AC and a lot of books to read. No need to buy some of the course books, you can issue it from the Library for 25 days. Although not all the books related to the course are available. Hostel facilites are somewhat bad. Specially for the fourth year, not every student get the single rooms, because of less no. of hostels. Although new hostels are under construction.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
