What Students Say
Likes
- I really liked the environment of the college as there was a diverse set of students coming from across the country.
- The faculty was top notch and was very dedicated and knowledgeable. If we faced any issue they would come up to help us deal with it.
- Also i liked the infrastructure of the college as they recently added a new building and have improved a lot in sports equipments and facilities.
Dislikes
- The admin section of the college is very slow and it is a hassle to deal with them. Half a time they are either on a break or on lunch.
- There is sometimes non availability of chairs in classrooms like there are approx 40 chairs in each classroom but if the strength of the class is more then we have to borrow it from the next classroom.
- Also you will have to take up some additional course which sometimes feel unnecessary but its not only in this particular college but in all the colleges under University of Delhi.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well designed but yeah it has some flaws in there like thry teach history of India with emphases the period after the mughal decline in the 2nd year but in the 3rd year they'll teach the period from Akbar onwards. Like the chronology is broken there but yeah its understandable sometimes. The curriculum prepares us particularly for higher studies and researching fields so it somewhat a great way. The professors teach us with a combination of methods such as using blackboard, laptops, movie review, book review, presentations, etc. There are 2 semesters in a year. The odd semester takes place in December-January and the even ones take place between May-July. The papers are not that tough.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of private companies that comes to offer roles and responsibilities on our campus. The companies that come are zomato, so-delhi, grant thornton bharat, deloitte, acadecraft, EY, reality smartz, etc. The stipend of the internship depends on the company and the duration fo work, most of the time it is 15000 rupees per month omwards. The main role they offer is of HR.
Placement Experience
The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees of Kamala Nehru College for particularly my subject was 14,000 rupees. It was a very affordability college though if somebody could not be able to afford it the college also used to give scholarships and financial aid facilities in order to not stop a student from studying. The college did not used to give us breakdown of the fees, it just simply used to give a whole amount as per the course, also the fees of General and OBC would be somewgat same yet SC/ST category would get some financial benefits.
Campus Life
There is an annual fest that takes place in the college known as Ullas where celebraties and artists come to the college to perform. It takes place somewhere between March-April. There are 2 floors that are completely dedicated to Library. It has huge collection of books and journals. There is availability of wifi in the campus and projectors. The college has recently added a new building with ac and lift facility, also they have improved and added lots of sports equipments and renovated the basketball court and added a new tennis court in the campus. There are a lot of societies in the colleges such as hindi debating society, quiz society, gandhi study circle, NCC, NSS, fashion society, english debating society, etc.
Admission
I applied to the Banaras Hindu University in the same course that is History Hons. I even secured admission there, but as the University of Delhi has a much better reputation than Banaras Hindu University so i got in here. There was also some students who did there high school from Banaras Hindu University but got in here. The only admission process followed here is through CUET UG examination. The cutoffs are rather high with about atleast 550 marks out of 800 at my time for the whole of the university not just Kamala Nehru College. Based on your scores and preference you will get admission here.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio was 10:57 in my classroom. The Faculty specially of history was very supportive and dedicated. They were very knowledge and used to help us with issues in our academic life. The political science Faculty was also nice with teachers who used to put some real efforts in teaching us new concepts. The psychology department was somewhat not that good as of what i heard from the students who had taken psychology as the G.E or secondary subject. There are 2 semesters in a year and in the first 2 years you have to take 7 papers and in the 3rd year you have to take 6 papers. The syllabus is understandable but yeah there are some structural issues sometimes and also the exams are not that tough.
Night Life
There are no hostel facility in thr college but there are a lot of pgs (paying guest) near the college where a student can stay. The ac rooms start with a range from about 15000 onwards per month and the non ac room available from about 11000 onwards per month. The night life is great with everything available near. On thrusdays there is only thrusday market that is available. Also there are a lot of eating stalls and restaurants nearby.
