Remarks

National P.G college has a good infrastructure. The premises is clean and has greenery inside. The library though not very large has quite a large no of books to help you through your course. There is a separate reading room available again with a very limited seating capacity. There is a canteen inside with a variety of snacks and food to chose from. The college is situated a few blocks away from the attraction centre Saharaganj mall, so there is always a crowdy environment outside. But the faculty is poor. The teachers even have the authority to slap you in the classroom for reasons like not completing your homework. I wasn't sure whether I am in college or in school. You are an adult when you enter college life and slapping you in front of the class is simply absurd. If not slapping the teacher can ask you to stand outside the class holding your ears. I think this should be banned for it affects students social life especially his confidence to enter the class in front of his classmates. Also no mobile phones are allowed inside premises. I understand discipline is important but some of the students come to college from very long distance, they depend on their parents for the transportation. The mobile phones are really needed in case of emergency. The college should not ban mobile phones, they can ask to keep the phone turned off during the college time. But banning them completely is really not a correct thing to do.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The National P.G college is an autonomous college of Lucknow University which means that it has got authority to conduct its own examinations irrespective of Lucknow university. The syllabus of the courses offered however are to a very great extent 98% or so match with university's syllabus. Every course offered has semester system. Most of the graduation courses are 6 semester programs with few other being only 4 semesters. My B.Sc course has 6 semesters. The exam structure in every course is similar. In every semester you have to go through 2 sessional tests comprising of 10 marks each for every paper you are studying. 1st sessional occurs mostly after a month or one and half months of the start of the course. The 2nd sessional takes place after a month or a month and a half after 1st sessional. 10 marks is based on internal assessment and attendance. 75% attendance is must to attend the final exams. At the end of semesters you have to go through a final semester examinations.

Placement Experience

2.5

The college does invites companies for job placements like TCS and Infosys. But only those are benefitted who have either adopted B.C.A as their course or B.Sc as their course with Computer science being one of the subjects in their final semester. The students also get placements but not in bulk. Only 8 to 10 students are selected every year with packages not more than 3 lakhs. I did not take Computer science as one of subjects in my final year so I didn't got the chance to sit for an interview. However 2 of my B.sc friends have taken computer science as their final subject and they got placed in TCS but the starting salary was just 13000 Rs per month. There are no internship programs in my college.

College Events

3.5

My college is the best example of spoiling the fun of college life. No events take place inside premises not even annual function. You do not get any sort of farewell as well. But it does organises seminars throughout the year by inviting people in different areas of education. Although you will not gain any useful information through these seminars, it just feels good to have something going on.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The science department is completely paid so courses like B.Sc and B.C.A are expensive with fees of about 25000 Rs per year. But other courses like B.Com and B.A are regular so they are easily affordable with fees of about 6000 Rs per year. You will get all information regarding fees structure on college website: npgc.in

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship is provided by college. However you can enroll for up scholarship once you get successfully admitted in the college. If you have opted for B.sc course then you can also apply for DST- Inspire fellowhip.

Campus Life

4

There are some extracurricular activities like rangoli making, Ghada painting, poster making (mostly related to arts). If you are a science enthusiast then please don't get excited, no science fares or any science projects are conducted /organised. Labs are not large in size. Even my school lab was thrice the size of my college labs. Because of limited room and limited time available not every student gets to do every experiment. The experiments are outdated and limited in number (hardly 6 to 8 experiments in every semester). Most of the times the apparatus won't work. Concerning sports our college has a cricket team. If you are a cricket enthusiast you can go for it.

Alumni/Alumna

There is hardly any communication between the juniors and the seniors. I never got to know the exact reason for this. But if I have to say I will say the main reason can be the limited time available and the extreme pressure of passing the exams on the students, due to which they hardly get any time to sit with seniors and discuss doubts or their career plans.

Admission

I got admission in National P. G in 2014. In order to roll in every candidate must appear in a written entrance examination. The application forms are available from the office inside the college premises. A candidate must fill in the required details and duly submit it to the office before the due date. On the time of submission you will be given your admit card and details of entrance exam which will held either in college or in National School just beside the college. The questions asked will be objective type and comprises of General awareness and questions related to the subjects you selected to study in the application form. For example I selected B.Sc as my course and Physics, Maths, Computer Science as the subjects. So the questions asked to me comprised of General awareness and maths, physics questions. The selection process is based on marks obtained in the entrance exam as well as your 10+2 marks with the later holding a greater weightage.

Faculty

1.5

I will say the college environment is strictly very discilplined. No mobile phones are allowed inside the campus. The teachers are regular and the syllabus never runs behind. But that does not mean that whtaever you are taught is worth of the time you spend to attend those lectures. Well I will tell from my personal experience in B.sc course and about the faculty of science and computer science (Computer science faculty also teaches in B.C.A course). The science faculty is not worth the expectations. They recommend you the same indian writer books recommended by Lucknow university. (With no ofense for indian writers) These books are written and designed according to your syllabus but you will gain 'nothing' after reading them. They will just help you write and pass your examinations but you will learn nothing from them. Each faculty members teaches only what is in those books and nothing different. None of them talks about ongoing researches or the use of what we are studying. However you learn one thing from them very easily: SPOON FEEDING : you learn that whatever is being provided by teachers as 'notes' in your notebooks are everything worth learning, you will find yourself throughout the semesters memorizing these notes in your notebook. This is not teaching, this is the best example of spoiling the education, thinking power and career of a curious and capable student. I am not saying that syllabus is poor rather the syllabus is very fine and more than enough. What I am saying is teaching is not good, through this quality of teaching you cannot pass any entrance exam such as Jam, Jest, Tifr, etc. Discipline is not everything, teaching quality and education matters the most. Overall the faculty is very poor.
