IGNOU PGDET FAQs

Ques. I am a school teacher with a B.Ed. degree. Am I eligible for PGDET?

Ans. Yes. The eligibility for PGDET is a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. A B.Ed. degree qualifies as a bachelor's degree, so you are eligible to apply. PGDET is in fact highly relevant for school teachers who want to integrate technology into their classroom teaching.

Ques. Does PGDET require any prior knowledge of computers or programming?

Ans. No prior programming knowledge is required. The programme starts with foundational concepts of educational technology and computers in education (MES 132), making it accessible to learners with basic computer literacy. The focus is on using technology for educational purposes, not on programming or software development.

Ques. What is the Project component (MESP 135) in PGDET? How is it evaluated?

Ans. MESP 135 is an 8-credit project where you design, develop, and evaluate a technology-integrated educational resource or courseware. This could be a digital lesson plan, an e-learning module, a multimedia resource, or a technology integration plan for your institution. You submit the project report to your study centre for evaluation by the programme coordinator.

Ques. Is PGDET useful for corporate trainers and e-learning professionals, or is it only for school/college teachers?

Ans. PGDET is designed for a broad target group including teachers, trainers, educational administrators, and courseware developers. Corporate trainers and e-learning professionals will find the courseware design and development component (MES 134) particularly relevant. The programme is equally valuable for anyone involved in designing or delivering technology-enabled learning.

Ques. Can I pursue PGDET through Navy study centres? I am a Navy education officer.

Ans. Yes, PGDET is available through IGNOU-Navy study centres at New Delhi (7101), Mumbai (7201), Visakhapatnam (7301), and Kochi (7401). Navy education officers and personnel can enrol through these dedicated Navy study centres.

Ques. After completing PGDET, can I pursue a higher qualification in Educational Technology from IGNOU?

Ans. IGNOU does not currently offer an MA or M.Ed. specifically in Educational Technology. However, PGDET can strengthen your profile for research in education and technology. You may also explore IGNOU's M.Ed. programme or PhD in Education, where educational technology can be a research focus area.
