Donald L. Heflin, Minister-counselor for consular affairs at the US Embassy in Delhi announced that Indian students appearing for their first Visa interview have a better chance of getting approved.
On the other hand, applicants on their second or third interview have a high chance of getting rejected. Students who were turned down for Visas more than once or were rejected in the spring of this year are unlikely to get any interview spots this year.

The American Diplomat appeared in a 30-minute Facebook Live Video to explain the different categories of non-immigrant visas. During this event, he explained the changes in the US Visa Application policy.
Heflin added that the policy aims to prevent individuals who were refused a student Visa from applying again. It will open up more opportunities for Indian students to study in the USA.

In 2021, due to the Pandemic, US embassies commenced the visa interview process in mid-June, which is quite late. This year visa interviews will start earlier in mid-May. As such US Consulates and Embassies in India are expecting to issue more study permits compared to 2021 when around 62,000 visas were approved.
Before concluding the live Facebook session, Heflin also announced that interview spots will be scheduled for first time B-1 and B-2 Visa applicants from September 1 of this year. In addition to this, interview dates and dropbox slots for H and L visa applicants will soon be opened.
